About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Touching my nose with my tongue

ABOUT ME

Living in Rio de Janeiro at the moment. My apartment has a spare bedroom with two beds, and is located in Praia de Botafogo.

My name is Øystein, I'm 24 years old, and I think pears are underrated. I am from a city called Tromsø, one of the northern most urban cities in the world, although I study in Bergen, the city with the most rain in Norway. It's too cold for me here in the winter time, so I go traveling as often as I can. I did two exchange years, one in Uruguay and one in Russia. It was pretty sweet. Also spent half a year in Lisbon.

I try to be as open-minded as I can, but I can't say that I am completely free of prejudices. I try, though. I also have some stereotypes, and I even like them. I don't even think there's anything wrong with it, as long as you don't expect every single one of them to be fulfilled. I have a very direct and politically incorrect humor.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to host quite a lot of people, but nowdays I'm not too active anymore. I have used couchsurfing when traveling, but it's not my main source of shelter while out in the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Above all else, I am a music lover, and I love progressive rock. Psychedelic, spacy, beautiful progressive rock. Also, I have a weakness for house and techno.

My favorite bands are Supertramp, The Beatles, Alan Parson's Project, The Doors, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Camel, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, The Hives, King Crimson, The Zombies, Jane's Addiction, Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears, and last but not least, my band, Olgas Amazon. Oh, and there are the prog rock bands from Argentina: La maquina de hacer pajaros, Sui Generis, Crucis and Espiritu.

My favourite movies are Donnie Darko, Almost Famous, Memento, The Prestige, Silence of the Lambs, 99 francs, El piel que habito, Populærmusikk fra Vittula, The Fall and The Elephant Man! I am averagely interested in litterature, but mostly modernistic works like Hamsun and Dostojevsky. Also I love modern crime novels, like those of Stieg Larsson, Jan Guillou and Jo Nesbø.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen the sky explode in purple and green waves of northern light, or "Aurora Borealis" right outside my front door. It's something you don't easily forget.

A guy in Myanmar just gave me a live chicken in my arms with no explanation.

Spent two months in India

Hitch-hiked from Argentina to Colombia.

Got kidnapped and mugged

Fought a bunch of evil monkeys at a monkey temple in Jaipur

OOOhh, and the best: Once, while in Uruguay, there was a natural phenomenon happening in the ocean. The water was filled with small organisms that would shine when there was movement, like if you swim in it, or where the waves broke. This was, obviously, in the middle of the night (as you wouldn't see them in the day, duh!) Anyways, me and my friends grabbed our surf boards and surfed these blue, shining waves.

I can teach you to part an apple in two with your hands, to make an origami lily, or to cook ceviche! Never tried ceviche?! You've missed out on one of the best treats in life. Here's a link: http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/seafood-recipes/peruvian-ceviche/#OhJI44zMvKGqKiVU.97
