Join Couchsurfing to see Barry & Jenny ’s full profile. It’s free!
Now that our kids are getting older (and so are we) our farming activities have greatly dwindled. Our daughter became interested in cycling and inspired us to consider touring as an activity we can do in the upcoming years together. We've been married 24 adventuresome years....we have several more years of adventures to go!
***As much as we would love to host, we are in transition currently and unable to at this time.***
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Our plans are to travel more via bike which means we will always be looking for places to stay. We enjoy tent camping but a nice, soft bed, especially after a long ride, is a welcome site.
We also enjoy meeting new people!
In the past, Jenny has volunteered with World Relief in the Vietnamese community. Barry and Jenny have also hosted Japanese students through Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute. In 2012-2013, they lived in Nicaragua. Both Barry & Jenny enjoy visiting with people from different cultures and building friendships around the world.
Our biggest interest (and investment) is our children who are becoming (or already are) young adults. Other interests are camping, cycling, hiking, gardening, and traveling....sometimes with our kids, sometimes without!
Barry enjoys a good beer, a good game (sports), a good book (when he has the time to read), and eating out. Most of the time he is busy running a business from home.
Jenny enjoys photography, working on projects/learning new skills, and being outdoors.

Music, Movies, and Books
Barry, having minored in music and sung in a college choir (Whitworth University), has great appreciation for classical music but his tastes are very eclectic. Anything from Abba to Alabama to Areosmith.
Music is very much a mood thing to Jenny. She also has eclectic tastes (albeit slightly different than Barry's - Lumineer's, Phillip Phillips, One Republic, and yes Baliwood - or any good upbeat music to run to) but often prefers classical or just the quiet.
Movies. Again, a mood thing! But movies with culture and reality are some of our most memorable. We love movies like 100 Foot Journey, Painted Veil, Joyeux Noel, and Memiors of a Gaisha. Sometimes you just need a good Borne or Avengers movie though.
Books. Barry loves history. He will reread good history books. Jenny usually has a 'How to ' or informational book going (organic gardening, bicycle maintenance, photography).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Since there's two of us, I'll list two....
Moved to Nicaragua with three teenage boys! That was an amazing adventure.
Completely remodeled a house and lived in it while remodeling...with 4 kids.
I think that qualifies as crazy rather than amazing. But, amazingly, we did it!
Teach, Learn, Share
You never realize how much of a culture you live in until you leave your own and visit another.
Selling off almost everything you own is a wonderfully freeing experience...like a weight lifted off your shoulders you didn't know existed. But, when you must replace some of those things you previously sold, it's expensive.
Be content and thankful for what God has given you. An ongoing, life-long lesson.
What I Can Share with Hosts
We realize what a gift it is for someone to open their home to us. We are more than happy to help out in any way we are able, whether it would be helping out with a few groceries or washing the dishes. Please just mention your request to us. We want our stay to be just as enjoyable for you!
