About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Start every day with a smile

ABOUT ME

30 years of traveling, and loving it, I have now decided to stay still for a couple of years in Western Canada. Feeling I little like a stranger in my home province from years living in Thailand. One thing I miss; how visitor and expats in foreign countries are so much more willing to let there 'walls' down than they do at home. On the positive side, as a stranger in my homeland, BC'ers are more willing to build long term, solid relationships!

I try to live with the smallest footprint possible, and have been doing so for almost 20 years. Our family, by appearances, was consider very average and conforming for over a decade living in BC. Yet friends were always engaged, and surprised, to learn we; heated our house and drove our vehicles using recycled waste products, managed to generate as much landfill garbage in a year as most other families generated in a month. Loved demonstrating to anyone little things they could do to be have small impact on our earth.

Finding eating whole foods and keeping landfill garbage down to a minimum a real challenge to do affordably in Northern BC!

Depends on how many cups of coffee I've had

Music, Movies, and Books

Travel and visit with locals. Leave the Lonely Planet at home, slow down and see a place as those that live there do. Always respect local culture, this is so important for so many reasons; the impact you leave behind, the openness you'll experience, the sharing you'll create. Take your kids traveling as much as possible, don't rush through and visit the popular destinations on a tight schedule, relax and let them choose the pace at times.

Ask locals often, and express you interests. Travel information can teach you so much, but those that live it will know more based on the locale, time of years, changes, etc.

Travel outside your comfort zone every so often.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Anytime diving in the ocean or sailing the open ocean stands out.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you can solder a wire or plug in a computer together you can; process your own biodiesel, build an electric car or bike, use waste oils from many different sources to power a diesel vehicle, and your own custom hybrid can be built and used, digest your own bio-gas, generate some renewable power – all works just great!

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Belize, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, France, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Italy, Jamaica, Laos, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Uruguay, Venezuela, Viet Nam
