About Me

I'm an American living in Seoul, South Korea teaching math at an international school here. I travel every vacation and have been through a lot of Asia and South America. Before I came here I volunteered for two years teaching math at a high school in rural Mozambique. I love the whole idea of Couchsurfing and have had some great experiences with it so far. If you visit Korea I'd be happy to show you around Seoul!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Limited but positive. I had some couchsurfers stay with me and my roommate in Mozambique once, they were awesome people (and didn't get angry when we accidentally wandered into the prison yard in our town on our way back from the river). I've done it a few times in Asia as well, and by and large my hosts have been such amazing people. It's a great way to see an area from a local perspective and not break the bank while you're at it!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Dumb and Dumber, 90s comedies with Adam Sandler, Chris Farley or Jim Carrey, American Psycho, Goodfellas, anything by Quentin Tarantino, Coming to America.

Books: Freakonomics, The Godfather, War and Peace, Blood Meridian, The Right Stuff, Heart of Darkness, Kitchen Confidential, Bonfire of the Vanities, Superforecasting, Everybody Lies

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I paraglided (glode? haha) in Rio de Janeiro, then a couple days later went on a 4 day 60k trek through this amazing lagoon-filled desert in northern Brazil called Lencois Marahneses.

Teach, Learn, Share

I speak decent Spanish (minored in it in university and studied abroad in Spain) and Portuguese (taught math in Portuguese for two years in a Mozambican high school) and am fairly conversational in Korean, so if you'd like to practice any of those languages (or teach me a new one) I'm completely down!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Travel tips for most of Asia and some of South America, positive attitude, stories from living around the world, and I can make a kickass gazapcho!
