About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to travel and learn as much as possible about everything

ABOUT ME

There are two of us (Franck and Marisa), so it's a bit difficult in one paragraph...but we live for the arts and travel! *If you want to surf here, we'd really like you to read our profile--particularly the bit about the cats. Our cats are like our children, so if you have allergies or don't like cats, we kindly suggest you find another host*

PHILOSOPHY

I once saw a quote in a second hand bookshop that housed foreign travelers and tucked it away into the vault of my brain only to later use it here: "Be not unkind to strangers lest they be angels in disguise".

Personal philosophy sounds a bit pompous to us, but without sounding naive or cheesy, we care a lot about kindness, respect, flexibility, openness, acceptance.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

here's a couch, there's a couch...ours or yours...you choose!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Fabulous! We've always been impressed by the kindness of strangers on our many travels.

Interests

travel, art, drinking tea, cinema, reading, books, second hand bookshops (try to find the best ones wherever we travel and then all our books have nice scribbles in the front cover of prices written in foreign currency and notes in a language we may or may not know), vegetarianism, organic cooking and gardening, photography, philosophy, music, writing, traditional and contemporary dance (especially butoh and improvisation) video art, hiking, foreign languages, politics, animals/nature, architecture, science, maps/cartography, textiles...really, there is very little that doesn't interest us.

Music, Movies & Books

This is really difficult and could take days, but here's a try: La Science des Reves (The Science of Sleep), The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes, ...film directors: Takeshi Kitano, David Lynch, Jane Campion, Hal Hartley, Pedro Almodovar, Werner Herzog, Julie Taymor, Maya Deren, The Brothers Quay, Jan Svankmajer, Ladislav Starevitch, Alfred Hitchcock....we love all kinds of cinema from all over the world and every period of history. music: yes please! from classic to punk rock...(we're listening to a lot of Mongolian music these days preparing for our trip). authors: Yukio Mishima, Michel Houellebecq, Lady Murasaki, Haruki Murakami, Allen Ginsberg, Susan Sontag, Shakespeare, Jim Ballard, Tolstoy, Conan Doyle, Philip K. Dick, Stephen King, James Ballard, JK Rowling, and so many more.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

the kidness that transcends language barriers and cultural/geographic differences.
