About Me

UPDATE JULY: I am now more or less settled in the ESTERON valley, which is really good for lovers of 'OFF THE BEATEN TRACK' experience. E.g. if you'd like 'baignade dans les piscines et jacuzzis naturels dans l'Esteron', take a look at
NB: "last login" info shown in CS profiles is often wrong! As of 2013, I am in NICE / CANNES / ESTERON area, and THIS info over-rides the automated "last login" info.
UPDATE 2013: I'm currently in Nice, Provence, FRANCE. Having visited / lived in 40+ countries I am now certain that France is the right place for me; so I am in the process of settling down here; staying with CS and non-CS friends until I decide where exactly I want to live.
I am interested in meeting people who live in or pass through Provence, even if it's just for a drink.
I am happy if someone offers me their couch, as this allows me to explore new locations, but at the same time I am also able to offer a place to sleep to other travellers (see the COUCH section) so do not hesitate to send a request.

If I had to describe myself in one sentence (in conventional human terms) I would say I'm somewhat good-looking, reasonably intelligent and very friendly & easy-going.
A few more bits:
I'm straight, single, quasi-vegetarian, blue/green eyes, 72kg, 186cm, 38 y.o. (Gemini-Tiger).

The Japanese/Chinese/Tibetan text above is likely appearing as scrambled characters on your computer, because the IT staff at CS apparently haven't heard about UTF-8 encoding yet :-(

An eye-ful of sunshine is better than a thought-ful of philosophy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

UPDATE 2013:
I am now more active as both a guest and a host.
I am here mostly to use the CS Search function and contact interesting people.

"Couchsurfing" in the sense of participation on this particular Website - little so far. I am more active on HC (

UPDATE 2011:
this year, I have had the leisure to explore the opposite of "mainstream knowledge", especially knowledge pertaining to health and natural remedies.
(I have done this by purposely searching for unconventional Websites I would not have had the patience to study while working full time.)

I have discovered some very beneficial substances, for the time being let me mention but two:

- ROYAL JELLY (known since ancient times, though not among the general populace, this is a time-tested natural tonic and all-round health-booster. The honey-bee population is on the brink of collapse worldwide, so try it out while you can. In my case it has improved my health generally, and has helped my eyes in particular.)

- DIATOMACEOUS EARTH (this too has been known to humans since ancient times, however, in my recent conversations with people I have discovered that virtually NO-ONE knows what it is. I'll leave it to you to find out "what it is" if you wish, suffice it to say that DIATOMACEOUS EARTH, in my experience, is quite miraculous.)

My main line of business is translation, and although I enjoy most aspects of it, I dislike the fact that it is usualy done in front of the computer.
My eyes suffer so much that I will gradually have to find an alternative career. For the moment I am hoping to find an English teaching position in FRANCE or ITALY to afford my eyes a few months' rest.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Teach, Learn, Share

How to save your eyes:

IE: View>Text Size>Largest
Mozilla: CTRL + {+}
Tools>Options>Content>[Fonts]>Advanced>Minimum Font size>SET TO btw 14-18.

Left-click Desktop>Properties>Appearance>Font Size>VERY LARGE.
Left-click Desktop>Properties>Configuration>Screen Resolution>REDUCE IT (1152X864 works for most people)

Now you can un-bury your head from the computer screen and keep it at a comfy distance of 50cm or more, thus absorbing much less radiation and hence incurring much less eye-damage. Enjoy!
