To be endearingly introduced to the world of Couch Surfing - hopefully meeting some great people on the way, and maybe making a few new friends too!! :)
I've travelled from a young age. Love the outdoors and can't stand being stuck in an office. I've lived in Spain, South Korea and Japan. In Spain, I worked in a hotel frequented by Spanish guests, so had to use my Spanish. It was part of the Leonardo da Vinci scheme when I was at college and 10 of us went to live in Andalucia over the summer. I was lucky and got to go back again the following year. I taught English in S.Korea and Japan for 5 years - living in Asia was incredible and a real eye-opener straight out of uni!
I am moving to Canada (hopefully for a few years) in June '09. It's taken a long time and lots of paperwork, but it's finally happening and I can't wait :) Ideally, I'd love to get back into the tourism industry and work in one of the national parks...have to wait and see what happens! Fingers crossed!
My friends would say I'm really personable and easy going, with a dry sense of humour. I love meeting new people and talking about travels. It's so cool when you meet somebody new who has visited somewhere you've been and you can compare notes.
Travel to as many places as possible and learn about them. Get to know the locals. Share your experiences. If it aint broke, don't fix it!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
CS is completely new to me - my friend very recently told me about it. Due to my forthcoming travels, I've signed up. I think it's such a fantastic idea, using modern technology to bring genuine, like-minded people together and have been impressed by what I've seen so far. It's nice to find an area of the web where participants are actually doing something useful and not hiding behind ulterior motives.
Hopefully, once I get a job and somewhere of my own either in BC/Alberta, I can then offer a couch to people and return the favour.
Just the beginning for me - hopefully the very beginning of a nice, long, enjoyable chapter. I respect other people and their property. Therefore, I understand people are offering a place to stay out of kindness and I aim to be a helpful, friendly, easy going and respectful guest, treating your property as I would my own home. I hope to meet some great people and make new friends. If someone is offering their accommodation, there has to be some give and take - I am more than happy to help with the washing up, take your dog for a walk, or you out for a meal in return for your hospitality. I am independent and well travelled, so am happy to look around town on my own and be left to my own devices - though obviously if you are free, I'd much prefer to do something together.
Travel, people, cultures, socialising, meeting people of different nationalities, nature and the great outdoors. Football (soccer), rugby, F1, motorsport, outdoor pursuits, snowboarding, canoeing, reading decent books, listening to music, watching films. I love having a laugh, so it would be a bonus on the enjoyment front if you look on the lighter side of things.

Music, Movies, and Books
Shawshank Redemption & Usual Suspects are my favourite films. I love the twists at the end.
I listen to a wide variety of music, with no particular favourites, but I like bands like Snow Patrol, the Chili's, etc.
I've just read 'The Kite Runner' which was one of the best books I've read for a long time. Next on the list is Stephen Fry's autobiography of his first 20 years.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The most amazing thing I've done has to be travelling through the Norwegian fjords - just magical. I recommend this to everyone to try and fit in in their lifetime. It's closely followed by the Alhambra in Granada, Spain and the diverse and changing landscape of Northern Morocco, from bustling Algiers to the amazing green Rif/Atlas Mts, blending into the northern fringes of the Sahara.

Mind boggling fact, think about this:
There are more atoms in a single glass of water than there are glasses of water in all the oceans of the world!
