About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Coloring in the grey world I was taught in school

ABOUT ME

Funny and easygoing. I love to laugh and kid around. Good companion, good talker, and an especially good listener. I'll lend an ear to anyone who needs one. Fun to have around for everyday activities, cooking dinner, listening to music. Very relaxed. But I'm modest. I don't usually talk about myself in this way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted for a long time when I lived in St. Louis, and I couchsurfed through America, but unfortunately both of those accounts were under different people! This is my first time having an account of my own, somehow, but I've met some really incredible people through couchsurfing.

Interests

I spend a lot of my time listening to and making music. I primarily play guitar (lots of folk/country and instrumental fingerstyle stuff) and I also play a bit of banjo, ukulele, autoharp, dulcimer, etc. I also read a lot of comic books and make art. I've been drawing a lot more recently, but I studied sculpture in school. I spend a lot of time thinking about how things work. I know it's vague, but I love to take things apart and put them back together. I love doing construction work and using tools. And I'm also interested in the larger picture, like how different cultures view certain daily practices, like where and when certain people smoke cigarettes, different accents, different religious symbolic imagery. It's a vague concept but it's what drives me to travel. Seeing how much variety can fit into certain ideas that are ostensibly the same. Cities on one side of the Atlantic can be so similar to cities on the other side, but the little differences make it fun.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- I went snowshoeing in the Sierra Nevada with some of my buddies when we were in high school. On the day that I got to lead the group, we were hiking up a densely wooded hillside which can be very tiresome because we had to zig-zag our way through the trees for the whole day. After a few hours I came to a clearing in the woods and saw a huge mountain lake that was completely covered in snow with no tracks running through it whatsoever. We hiked out to the middle of it (it was frozen) and ate fig newtons with cream cheese surrounded by the snowy mountains.
- This is corny. Going to my best friend's thesis show in college. We were very close for a long time and looking at her art after watching her study and change for so many years, I was completely blown away when I realized how beautiful and complex her work had become. I'm not really even sure how to describe that sort of feeling.
