I want to see the brief history of this very young country. I want to experience new things and interesting places before responsibilities prevent me.
Honestly the best way to describe myself is boring but trying to change. I've sort of drifted through life, and not in the interesting vagabond way. I've always been about my job, my things, and the internet with little time or attention paid to adventures or broadening my horizons.
One day as someone was describing their travels I suddenly had a realization. I'd never traveled simply for my own enjoyment by myself or even with my family growing up. Every trip I'd ever been on was a means to an end, either fulfilling family obligations or helping to transport others.
I've been trying to get over the fears that have kept me in a safe bubble for my whole life and see things before I become a boring, biter old man.
My personal beliefs are best summed up as "everything in moderation." I think that everyone should do what brings them joy as long as they aren't actively detracting from the joy of others.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
When I return from my current trip I intend to get a larger apartment, partially because I'm tired of cooking, eating, sleeping, and surfing all in the same room and partially so I can host surfers (if any want to visit my sleepy town.)
I'm a newbie. Beyond crashing at a friend of a friend's house once or twice in my life I've never done something like this.
I'm an unashamed, and dare I say it, proud geek. I enjoy learning about and using technology, as well as most things that go along with geek culture. I like learning about history and experiencing new music. I'm also quite fond of good serialized television.
Music, Movies, and Books
My tastes in all of these are so broad it's really hard to describe. I like anything from slow foreign character dramas to big budget action films, from classical to death metal, from biographies to fantastical science fiction as long as it is well done.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
You know, I'm sitting here trying to think of something and I just can't. Pathetic I know, but maybe your couch can be the launchpad for my amazing adventure.
Teach, Learn, Share
My knowledge is broad but shallow. I know a bit about the history of the California gold rush and internet technologies, but I'm sure there are others that know far more than I do.
