I'm Gary. I come from southern china/hong kong. Currently based in new york.
Here's a quote from a diary I wrote earlier to share my thoughts about traveling:
'It never lets me down. The bikeride around the Qinghai Lake(biggest lake in china) left me the memory of that thin fresh plateau air in my lungs, and the slight pain in my hands after holding too hard on the bicycle knob. I also remember during that sunset in Kenting, standing on a windy cliff, everything around seemed so ethereal to me. And recalling the stars in that middle-eastern desert, gathering around the pinkish galaxy, with shooting stars gliding across the sky every once in a while, my soul was then immersed in unbounded serenity. These experiences were so freshly imprinted in my mind, strong enough to convince me what I’ve been through were absolutely not just a bunch of beautiful dreams, somehow so unreal though. When these wonderful moments by chance pass through my mind, sorrow and confusion are gone, leaving joy and gratefulness.'
I really like this website.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Getting the chance to stay at the closest distance with local people in different places as well as saving travel costs, getting the best of two worlds, why not then?
On the other hand, as a host, being able to promote your own culture that you're deeply proud of to people from the world, why not then?
- rock climbing
Music, Movies, and Books
All of Teresa Teng's music (supposed to be the songs for my parents generation but really remindful of the good old days), all of Norah Jones. Besides, I don't have a strong preference for other songs.
Oh yeah, I also started to enjoy classical music after taking a relevant course last year. Not sure why but the Baroque styles seem to fit my taste.
I don't resist any kind of movie, but among all Woody Allen and Richard Linklater's works are my favorite. I love the conversations in woody's movies and the narrations in richard's.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I’m a rock climber, and I’ve been climbing for 5 years. One thing in common between the rock climbing and Couchsurfing community is people are always willing to share.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would be happy to teach anyone chinese, and would be even happier if someone could teach me some basics his/her own language as well. The same thing applies for cooking ( specialty dish: Chinese Kung Pao Chicken)
What I Can Share with Hosts
I could take you on a climbing session at the local gyms, or outdoor rock climbing trip if you have a car.
I’d also love to buy you beer at the pub.
