About Me

I'm very curious and I aim to touch people with some supportive words when I can! I'm deeply into reading, writing and world events. If you can't find the right word for something, I'll have it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Honestly? Just to give comfort to someone who is stressed with work right now. I guess I've always been interested in couch surfing but it's scary to take the plunge and meet new people in new cities!

Music, Movies, and Books

Some films can really make you experience new thoughts and feelings, I find. There's art house films, animation, and spine-chillingly deep moments in certain Western movies. Movies were probably the first thing that really educated me about the international world - so did world music.

I'm finding I tend to like classical now, with all the vibrant beautiful instruments you'll get in the famous pieces by amazing composers. I might go to see a local performance live soon - never went before!

Some electronic music has definitely influenced me. I like swing and jazz, especially jazz piano. Try Errol Garner on YouTube. Starcadian - Heart is a really nice electronic piece; it reminds me of the Drive movie soundtrack which is also amazing. Synthwave is really nice for when you want to feel in a certain mood, and then I also like Barry White for all the thoughts it makes me have - I can really get into the music.

With books I love a tough challenge. Recently I'm interested in books which help me understand complex things but expressed in a clear way. There's interesting philosophers, like the Stoics, who provide some clear thinking about life and how we would all be less stressed if we lived without caring too much about what happens to us or our material possessions and the usual anxiety of a chaotic life. Sometimes we can work through these issues by thinking, or that's the idea anyway.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've supported some friends through very tough, low points in their lives, in an hour of need. I think it's really good if people can learn to appreciate others' feelings in a way where we reach out and support one another, and let the other person open up about their darkness and worries and insecurities, so it can all be worked out. I'm learning to be a stronger person this way, too :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I guess I've always been interested in teaching something that I know, and my brother works for a charity teaching art so interestingly now it doesn't seem like an impossible gap to jump, or anything like that. I want to volunteer or travel if I can, to get some more life experiences and feel more independent.

I'm curious and interested to figure out how people have become who they are. It's surprising how you can sometimes just strike up conversation with someone on the train or something, and it will lead you to something new. I did that recently! So it was sharing my views on the world, but with strangers - and it was nice. I also recommended an author to them when I got off at my stop. It's nice to think that whatever they're doing now, they're going on their own way in their spiritual journey.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm not used to being sociable because I'm very quiet, but I'm interested in current world events and things to read, so there would be a couple of things to talk about! I don't bite, I'm not loud or anything, I'm just not used to sharing much with strangers, so that's a problem maybe. I need to open up and change and be more friendly, and I'm starting to do this.
