About Me

I think if I'd been born in another century, I would have been an explorer or a pioneer - striking out across new territory. I sometimes tell my family I have life ADD - I can't seem to stick to one place or one job (or even one activity) for very long. The good thing about this is that I've had some amazing experiences in my life already, and I meet really interesting people along the way. The possible down-side is that there is no one place I would really call home. Although, there are many places where I feel like a local. (If you haven't see the TEDtalk by Taiye Selasi 'Don't ask me where I'm from,' I highly recommend it. Its really inspirational!)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This is currently my 12th year as a secondary school teacher. I've greatly enjoyed the experience of working with students from around the world, but I am also looking forward to taking a career break at the end of this Academic year.

During my time off, I want to gain as many new experiences as I can, travel to new places, learn new languages, and all on a reasonable budget! I have heard about couchsurfing for years and I am excited to give this a try.

Music, Movies, and Books

I mainly enjoy listening to either movie soundtracks or musical theatre songs. My favourite book is The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein. My favourite movie is Dangerous Beauty.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had the opportunity to work on a model of Artic Ice at the Ocean University in Qingdao China. I ended up realising that I am not cut out for research of that scale, but it was an amazing programme to participate in, and I loved every minute of my 10 weeks in Qingdao.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am not sure what types of things people might be interested in. I have picked up many odd skills as a teacher over the years. Subjects I've taught include maths, science, English, humanities, drama, and technology. I've also been involved in helping to run the school musicals, science fairs and maths competitions.

Mainly, I am a really good listener and love to hear other people's stories. I'm also happy to pitch in a help with cooking, chores, babysitting, tutoring, or anything that needs to get done!
