About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Finish Graduate school so I can get out of Fairbanks and see more of the world
ABOUT ME
I am the son of two hippies who moved to Talkeetna Alaska in the early 70s from upstate New York. When I was about one or two we moved out of our cabin to live permanently in Palmer so my sister could go to school and because there was more work to be had. I grew in Palmer and attended Colony High School. In 2000 I started working on a degree in geology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In the fall of 2002 I met Molly Odell, my girl friend of 4 years now. After finishing my geology degree, I started a masters in geophysics studying plate tectonics using GPS. I now live in a small cabin and plan to finish my M.S. in spring 2007.
PHILOSOPHY
In general, people are good…
There is a lot to learn in this life so I had better not stop…
I need all the brain cells I have.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am providing the opportunity for travelers to meet a local.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I couchsurfed a little bit in Switzerland with Molly in March 2006. More recently, I couchsurfed while doing fieldwork for my graduate studies in Western Alaska. I stayed with a nice woman in King Salmon who was able to teach me quite a lot about the commercial fishing industry.
Interests
Exploring... Alaska is a vast place and I really love going places I have never been befor. To be more specific I like hike and rock climb, and ski, but I also enjoy doing fieldwork take takes me to remote locations.

Music, Movies, and Books
Just read DaVinci Code and loved it but for the most part I read non-fiction. I enjoy books about real Alaskan Sourdoughs. As far as music goes I am open minded but I can say I do not like county.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I went to Adak in the Aleutian Islands where I flew in a helicopter for the Alaska Volcano Observatory to survey benchmarks on nearby volcanic Islands.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach a bit about geology and geophysics, especially in the area of plate tectonics.
I can also show people what it is like to live in Fairbanks or at least what it is like if you’re a graduate student trying to save a buck. I can educate visitors about the recreational opportunities in the Fairbanks.
