I'm a thoughtful and communicative American college student, currently studying abroad in Budapest. I love music (and especially metal), and have been exploring the outer reaches of musical expression for as long as I can remember.
I love walking alone through cities, taking in the sounds of the streets or listening to a podcast / music on my iPod.
My favorite thing about traveling is simply getting the feel for a new city––what its buildings look like, how its traffic sounds, how a crowd behaves in its crowded neighborhoods.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Looking for a place to stay during a long weekend trip to Paris on May 5th-8th, along with a friend. I would love the chance to get to see the city through the eyes of a local. The last time I went to Paris was when I was thirteen, and I've already seen many of the big tourist destinations. This time around I want to eat and drink well, enjoy the spring sunshine and walk the streets as much as possible.
I also hope to host Couchsurfers one day when I own / rent my own apartment (whenever that may be!)
I love music more than anything. I'm constantly looking for new songs / bands to geek out on, while also returning to and reappraising old favorites.
As I said earlier, I'm studying math, and I tend to appreciate the extremely esoteric and arcane when it comes to academics. Within mathematics itself, I tend towards abstract algebra as well as topology. In fact, I'm taking a fantastic course this semester called (you guessed it!) Algebraic Topology.
I love a good drink, and especially beer. Although I've only just recently reached the legal drinking age in my home country, I've been developing a taste for good beer since then. I love dark beer––nothing better than a St. Bernardus Abt 12, if you ask me.
Music, Movies, and Books
As far as music goes, I'm especially well-versed in metal, and especially black metal and grindcore. Some of my favorite bands within the scene are Darkthrone, Blut Aus Nord and Sumac. I'm not strictly into metal, though! I really just like any music that challenges my expectations / compels me to keep thinking about it even after the song has ended. That can be anything from black metal to dirty south hip-hop.
As far as movies go, there's no way I could even get close to choosing favorites, so instead I'll pick some that I've watched recently and have stuck with me: Dog Day Afternoon, Goodfellas, Brokeback Mountain, Tangerine and Throne of Blood, to name a few.
I really don't read as much as I should. I like stuff that tends towards the absurd / macabre, and if you have any suggestions, please let me know! I really loved Thomas Pynchon's 'The Crying of Lot 49', for reference.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I worked on a trail crew in southern Oregon for one summer. We spent five days every week doing a new conservation job in state / national parks. Building new trails, clearing fallen trees from existing ones and removing invasive species from protected habitats were but a few of the many awesome things that I learned how to do.
