About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To enjoy what I can and endure what I must.

ABOUT ME

So, my favorite thing to ask people when I first meet them is "tell me your life story in ten words or less." One, because I appreciate succinctness, two, because I'm awful at regular-person small talk. As of right now, the reply that I give when they ask me is "undulatory raging-punk teller of tales."

To expand on that a little---I'm open-minded and calm, but also full of enthusiasm for living that would match a six-year-old's. I throw myself into the things I'm passionate about, but I am also really good at knowing when to relax, and let things come as they come.

There's a little more about me, including references, on my old profile here: http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/fyodorandsasha/

Right now I'm living and teaching English in Southern Thailand, and hopefully traveling around a good deal for the next few months.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would love to host any surfers who might be coming through Surat Thani, meet up with other surfers who are exploring the area (I'm a real weekend warrior now that I have such a strict schedule for my teaching job, every Saturday I'm off someplace new and exciting), and make new friends in the places I travel to all across Southeast Asia.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I CouchSurfed the last time I was in Europe, and had the most wonderful time. I'm naturally somewhat shy as a traveller, and so having a person as my introduction to a city made it ten times easier to get out and meet people and have a good time.

Interests

I make theatre in New York, which requires a fair bit of tenacity, and the ability to see the best in a rough situation. To pay the bills, I work with kids, which allows me to tap into my silliness on a daily basis. When I'm not doing either of those things, I'm usually eating something I made myself, supporting my local arts community by attending a play/concert/musical/opera/dance piece/poetry reading/gallery opening, or learning folk songs (lately I've been going through pretty much every Carter Family tune, and old blues hollers)

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:

Pretty much any magical realism (Winter's Tale, The House of the Spirits, The Master and Margarita, etc). Of course I have a huge penchant for Shakespeare; King Lear, The Winter's Tale, and Richard III being my favorite tragedy, comedy, and history, respectively. Also about a lot of poets that can be listed upon request.

Movies:

Sunset Boulevard, The Apartment, La Strada, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, West Side Story, The Warriors, Annie Hall, Spirited Away

Music:
The Velvet Underground, Patti Smith, Jacques Brel, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, The World/Inferno Friendship Society, Against Me!, X-Ray Spex, Stephen Sondheim, and Kurt Weill

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Producing plays with little time and even less money, running a 12k for the first time, the view of San Francisco from the Marin Headlands.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to bake a pie with locally-sourced ingredients, how to perform with commedia dell'arte masks, or about the role of women in activist movements, among other things.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bahamas, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Puerto Rico, Sweden, United Kingdom
