To realise the dream of being a gypsy and a pilgrim traveler, And keep my sanity while pursuing my doctorate.
I was born and raised in India and I worked there a few years before coming to the US to pursue an MS and now a PhD. My academic pursuits keep me busy, so I may not able to show you around. However, my home does not move and will be exactly where I tell you :)
I write a blog, and that might be the best reflection of who I am. I haven't written often in the past 1 year, though. My blog's URL is www.blog.gurdas.com
"The more I see, the more I see there is to see". Not my words, but a quote I associate with.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
To welcome travelers with tales and smiles. And a cup of Indian tea. To offer the warmth which only a fellow traveler can give. To learn.
I've been hosted once in Washington, DC. I was visiting with my family and our host gave us his home, while he stayed at his mother's place. Isn't that amazing?
Mountains (hike, trek), photography, table tennis, conversations, new cultures, "what makes us tick"

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: Catch-22, The Lord of the Rings, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Catcher in the Rye, Illusions, Jonathan Livingstone Seagull, The Road Less Travelled, Cosmos.
Movies: Too many to cover here!
Music: I follow no specific genre but generally get along with sounds that suit the mood.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
What people seek most is understanding. I have found friends in the most unlikely places by simply putting myself in the shoes of the person in front of me.
I have no one single big bang experience. But hundreds of ordinary daily experiences which I find magical. The experiences where the true qualities of being human are revealed.
Countries I’ve Visited
