About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm an anthropology student! It is my goal to talk to as many people from as many places as possible. I want to truly understand what parts of our modern world exist in all parts of the globe.

ABOUT ME

I am intuitive, empathetic, and insatiable.
I've been told by many people that I'm wise beyond my years. I like to drink whiskey, but a local beer will always do! I love adventure and traveling. I need a lot of variety and challenges tempered with a comfortable place to relax and watch the sun go down.

PHILOSOPHY

Too much of the way people perceive the world is based in Western binary-style conceptions. It's when we can destroy these false binaries that the lovely things that fall between them open up before our eyes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Being interested in all sorts of people, I hope to gain the experience of staying with and hosting a wide variety of people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new to this, officially! I have spent weeks on the road with my friend's rock band though, and did a lot of couch surfing in that sense.

Interests

Well, obviously traveling. I am a natural mediator, and can find common ground with just about anyone. I like to sleep in late, but on those days that I have a good reason to wake up early, I truly savor the morning hours. I love to drink red wine and have long conversations, deconstruct binaries, and make jokes at my own expense.

Music, Movies, and Books

These are my all time favorites, but by no means should you interpret this as a comprehensive list of the things I love:
Books:
Tom Robbins, Sylvia Plath, Charles Bukowski, ethnographic books, Jessica Valenti, bell hooks

Movies: The Royal Tennenbaums, Wet Hot American Summer, Taxi Driver, The Graduate, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Departed, Casual Sex.

Music: I like indie-electro dance music. Some bands I can't stop listening to are: Le Tigre, Cut/Copy, ESG, Girltalk, the blow, LCD Soundsystem, MSTRKRFT, The Presets, The Gossip.
I'm also kind of obsessed with 70's rock. Trippy.

Food:
Fried noodles!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I sat with a group of old women who survived the Khmer Rouge and heard their stories of survival. One woman threw a bundle of rope around her shoulder and told anyone who stopped her that she was pursuing a her stray cow. She made it to the Vietnamese border and lived to tell the story.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, if you're open to talking about gender issues, I have an endless amount to teach you about that. I love to cook authentic and inexpensive mexican food, so if you want to learn that, I'd be happy to teach you as well.
