ABOUT ME

Oh, man. I suppose you want the good stuff, right? Here come the "I" statements [I refuse to write in third person]...

I tend to be easygoing, but I work hard [and sleep harder]. I like the hustle. I enjoy little more than a good meal amongst good people, except perhaps a good laugh [though the three are certainly not mutually exclusive]. I believe that good conversation is a skill that needs to be cultivated, but am a huge fan of the awkward pause as promoted by Craig Ferguson. My tastes tend to be varied; I try my best to keep an open mind about most things.

Interests

I'm going to school for interior design, so a lot of my time is spent working on projects and distinctively not sleeping [which both excites me and bums me out because I do love a good nap]. I began doing some work with an interior designer about a year ago and I can't remember being quite this happy for a very long time. Finding beauty in unexpected places, drawing inspiration from surprising sources, all of that stuff: it excites me. Some classmates and I just finished a side project for a client and it is one of the most consuming and rewarding experiences I've had all balled into one.

Photography is something that I've been pursuing at a decidedly amateur level for quite some time now and it definitely helps inform the way I look at the world and think about space. I also enjoy writing, though I can't always find the time for it. I listen to podcasts and talk radio voraciously. These thoughts are not really related at all, but I'm going to leave them like that because that's how I'm rolling today.

What else? Video games. I'm a geek. I went to school for computer science for a spell. I've dabbled in graphic design. Photoshop and I have gotten to be pretty tight. I'm a total mac fangirl. That about wraps up the things that keep my engine revving aside from my friends and my family, which I figure is implied.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Okay, so I'm going to get all architectural on y'all. One of the big projects we had in my first semester of this interior design program I'm in was to design a hotel suite and elevator car in homage to an assigned architect or designer. I was tasked with designing for Steven Ehrlich [look him up if you dig California modern; amazing stuff] and I won't get it into it all, but it still stands as one of my favorite things I've done for school to date. Fast forward a year or so and a friend and I decided to go check out the Schindler House in LA, and I swear I had a *moment* in that house. I'll cop to not being terribly familiar with his work previously - I knew that he had worked with Wright and that was about it. There were these little touches, some obvious and some not so much, that just sang as I walked around. I'm not saying by any means that I'm operating at the kind of level that he was, but I felt an immediate and undeniable sense of kinship and understanding in that place.

And any moment where I get to see nature be big or bold or beautiful is always enough to knock the breath out of me just a little bit.
