Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

To travel the world as much as I can! I want to have a journal of stories from the people I meet, the adventures I go on, the trouble I get into, and the memories I make!

ABOUT ME

Hello!
My name is Hedy Lu Bares, 23 years old and from Colorado, USA! I have lived in Colorado almost my whole life, attending college in the northern part of the state while earning a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary/Primary Education. I love children and being in school, but I thought I was too young to settle down into a career at this time. I never had much of an opportunity to travel when I was younger, so when I graduated, I packed my bags and moved to Los Angeles! I have danced all my life and was hoping to get a gig dancing on a cruise ship. Two months later, I was offered a youth activities position with Disney Cruise Line, which ended up being the perfect job for me because I get to entertain children while using my degree! That being said, I packed my bags and moved to Florida. Working on the ship has given me the ability to travel a little bit and see new parts of the world, but I need more than tourist ports. This summer, my ship will be spending its itinerary traveling around the Mediterranean and I'm planning on going backpacking for a month, between Italy, France, and Germany!I'm really hoping to dig into some culture and meet some fantastic people who can help make my traveling experiences unforgettable.
I would consider myself an adventure-seeking, fun loving person. I'm Christian and my faith has played a huge role in who I am today, but I'm DEFINITELY not a Bible thumper - I respect people for who they are and let them live their own lives. I will never say no when an opportunity for adventure presents itself: I'm out to live life to the fullest! I'm not a crazy partier, but I definitely like to go out and have a good time! As I stated earlier, dance is a big part of life, as is the rest of the fine arts, so anywhere I can go to be a part of that will make me happy!
I can be hyper and talkative when the situation calls for it, but I am also a big people watcher which makes me rather quiet at times.
I'm clean, keep to myself and have no problem helping out around the house. I'm looking forward to getting to know some new people and filling up my camera and journal with new faces and stories I'll never forget!

PHILOSOPHY

I believe everyone makes their own happiness. You have the power to decide whether today is going to be a good day or a bad day. That being said, I also believe that people need to live life to the fullest, and that means embracing emotions as they come. If you need to cry, cry. If you're happy, smile. If something is funny, laugh! Stop being afraid of what everyone thinks of you, because at the end of the day, we're all screwed up and we all have our own problems. Don't judge others because no one's perfect. Before you start pointing fingers, put yourself in that person's shoes and remind yourself that there is always a part of a situation you don't understand.
Be smart with your choices, but don't put yourself in a situation where you look back and say, "I wish..." Embrace your loved ones and know that every relationship works two ways. Spend your time wisely: whether you're single and traveling the world or married with kids at home, invest your life with those who respect you and your time. Know when to say no and when to walk away. Be strong and stand up for yourself but be polite with good manners: being rude has never gotten anyone far in life.
Most importantly... don't settle. Push yourself to always be better than you were yesterday. Set goals for yourself, whether it's as simple as reading a new book next week or as ambitious as climbing Mt. Everest, you will never regret achieving the goals you set for yourself. Don't be afraid to learn, about everything, and not just through books. Some of the best learning situations come through personal experiences. The world is full of knowledge, we just have to go find it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfing is new for me! As I've stated, I'm just starting my journey of traveling and this backpacking trip in Europe is going to be my first big adventure!

Interessi

- I love the fine arts! Dancing, theater, choirs... the list goes on and on!
- I love being in the water, which is kind of contradictory because I've recently discovered I'm not as great of a swimmer as I thought I was....whoops! But I love water sports and activities: snorkeling, kayaking, jet skiing... I've always wanted to learn how to surf!
- I love food! Trying different kinds of new foods is a hot spot for me!
- I also love music! I like pretty much everything except for jazz and scream-o. If it has a good beat, you better believe I'll be dancing along or rockin' out!
- Anything outdoors! I love being in the sunshine and experiencing nature.
- Any type of thrill activity: the more extreme, the more I like it!

Musica, film e libri

I'm a stereotypical girl who loves chick-flicks and romance movies. I also love scary/psychological thrillers: movies that will make me think and freak me out! I'm not big into horror movies with lots of graphic violence (I loved Taken but hated Texas Chainsaw Massacre). I love action movies and documentaries. I'm not big into raunchy comedies with crude humor - bathroom jokes/scenes are a no go!
My favorite movie of all time is Grease!! I also love Forrest Gump and Pearl Harbor.

I listen to lots of different types of music, but mostly mainstream. I love country, pop, rock, hip hop, r&b, and rap. Every now and then I'll get into classical moods. I love musicals and a cappella groups. I'm not big into jazz or scream-o but those are about the only two genres I'm not fond of.
My favorite song right now is I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift. You can go ahead and "boo" if you need to: I understand.

I love to read, but my varieties of books are rather limited. For years, all I read were Nicholas Sparks novels and similar romances. I can't lie... I love children's books! Being a school teacher, I have come to love reading picture books. I love informative books: books that will teach me about animals, different countries, religions, ect... just as long as they're not written like an encyclopedia!
My favorite book right now is The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

In July of 2007, I went on a mission's trip to Thailand for two weeks. Me and my team volunteered in an orphanage in Northern Thailand where we helped teach English in local schools and did some ministry work with some villages in Southern Burma.

In February of 2014, I went skydiving over the Kennedy Space Center in Florida! At the highest in the world, over 18,000 feet, I was able to see the world from a totally different perspective and see NASA from an amazing view!

What I can teach you:

The basics of good ol' American culture! I'm a patriotic American in every way, shape, and form. I love my country and love to share my knowledge about it with others. I'm not huge on politics, but understand my government system and beliefs rather well.
I can teach you how to dance! Whether it's ballet, hip hop, or the basics of partner dancing at a salsa club, I'm there for ya, babe!
I can also teach you about the basics of Christianity and why I believe what I do.

What you can teach me:

How to be resourceful. I don't have a problem asking for help, but I would like to develop the skill on how to solve my own problems more efficiently without depending on other people.
I would love to learn about your favorite hobby/pastime/talent. This is something that speaks of who you are and will help me get an inside look at you and what you enjoy!
You can also teach me about your religion and your personal beliefs on life!
