About Me

Heena Yoon is a composer, pianist, and music educator. She received her B.M. and M.M. in music composition summa cum laude from Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in music composition under Professors Joel Feigin and Clarence Barlow at University of California, Santa Barbara.

As a composer of an interdisciplinary art group ONENESS and a dedicated dance musician, she is interested in interactive artwork and collaboration with other fields including literature, visual images, and especially dance. She has enthusiastically studied dance for ten years, including ballet and modern dance, traditional Korean dance, and traditional Balinese dance, by participating in masterclasses of BalletBoyz(UK), George Balanchine Legacy from New York City Ballet (USA), Hofesh Shechter Dance Company(UK), traditional Balinese culture workshop (Indonesia), and more.

“Dance and Opera,” an art review magazine, referred to her piece for danceHo’oponopono as “absolutely brilliant and experimental, perfectly fit to dance.” Among her pieces, Ho’ponopono and Fountain won bronze from the Global Music Award, USA. Fountain and Pathya Vat won prizes from the Corwin Music Award, UCSB. Ho’oponopono was released on CD and introduced toImplulsTanz, the international modern music festival in Vienna, Austria.

As a Zen practitioner, she uses her pen name Muwon with her real name and pursues a realization of her name’s meanings through music: boundlessness, brilliance, and beauty.

Interests

Bridge: links between two different things.
Anything beautifully aging: especially old libraries, old performance venues and old bookstores.

Books and book-nook.
gathering interior decoration pictures! :)

Tea. A huge fan of English Tea time. Throwing a tea party!

Music, the shape of instruments. The flow shape of grand piano, violin, shine of flute, sharp but circular shape of of strings, ....

Ballet. I can't say enough. I admirer dancers and choreographers.

Taking pictures of people who are special to me as best I can, and make a photo book of them - I love the moment of seeing their beautiful smile when they find their happiness in the photos.

Of course traveling. But not just sightseeing. I love 'interactive' traveling which I can meet people and share anything with them - maybe a piece of their life story?
Next time I really want to go on a trip with my family....

The most important: my dog. his name is LittleTree, a rescued Yorkshire Terrier, who actually rescued my life!!!!

Music, Movies, and Books

Wow this is exciting and hard questions. How can I list up all of the great music and movies and books I love?

Again, anything old. Anything created when no cell phone, no computer exists. (even though I can't live without my laptop and cell phone:)

-Music: Bach, Beethoven, Faure, Ravel, Stravinsky, ..(oh I'd like to make an exception. I love Jason Mraz's music so much even though it's not old enough.)

-Books: whatever I read as a kid. I owe a lot all of them : dear ...Jane Eyre, AnnE of Green Gables, Sherlock, Paddington Bear, Little women, ...so many!
