I am currently living in the Bay Area, Oakland to be specific, and I've been here for almost two years. I am originally from Cape Verde which is an archipelago off the West Coast of Africa. I moved to Boston when I was nearly 11, and lived there until I was transplanted to the Bay.
I guess I call myself a citizen of the world because I never really grew up in one place all my life, and I've always felt more connected to "foreigners" or people with wandering souls.
I love traveling and get restless when I can't. This year, my goal is simply to experience more of the world, and get to know more people that I would not typically know, if I stay put.
Above all, love without cynicism.
Enjoy others, enjoy yourself, enjoy what your arms and legs are able to do, and don't be angry that they cannot make you fly. Enjoy those who can, and remember that they too enjoy the view.
Do not resign. There comes a day when that will happen with certainty, and it won't be your decision to make. Choose to live when that decision has been given you.
Laugh, and do what you enjoy.
I love reading, writing, movies, anything creative and artistic, teaching kids, listening to kids and watching them learn, meeting new people who are different and the same...I enjoy quiet times, and I enjoy noisy times. Above all, I enjoy having the option, and then having the choice to do what I want to do.
Music, Movies, and Books
This is tough.
I am perpetually finding great movies, music, and books, so this will perpetually be changing.
Movie: "The Perks of Being a Wallflower"
Music: Lianne La Havas' first album
Book: "How to Escape from a Leper Colony" by Tiphanie Yanique
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Children day in and day out. They are the most amazing.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know how to enjoy myself, and hope that you can too. But if you cannot, that is one thing I might be able to help with, as long as you're open to it.
I can cook! I make delicious meals that I can't talk about right now, because I'm hungry, and my mouth will water if I do so. I can teach you some recipes!
