About Me

A while ago I retired from my job as a grammar school (liceo) teacher of English and Social Sciences and moved to the lovely area called Chiemgau in upper Bavaria, living close to Lake Chiemsee, which lies about 40 miles east of Munich close to the Austrian border.
As I like various kinds of water sports like sailing and kayaking, and also enjoy mountaineering, skiing and biking, this area is ideal for me.
Last but not least I'd like to mention that I live alone, but I have two grown-up children and three lovely grandchildren.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I heard of couchsurfing some time ago and found it an interesting concept as I like travelling but find hotels rather impersonal. Then I started planning a three-month trip to Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and Brasil, from which I've come back recently , which gave me the idea that staying with local people in the countries I'll be visiting might be much more fun than staying at hotels or hostels. And it would also give me a chance to improve my Spanish.
In the future I can imagine myself hosting people from all over the world myself.
Pienso que couchsurfing es una idea muy buena porque me permite encontrar gente de diferentes paises y culturas en su vida normal y real, intercambiar ideas, experiencias y opiniones. En futuro intento hospedar gente en mi casa.

Interests

Apart from sports and outdoor activities as mentioned above, I'm into music a lot, writing songs and playing the guitar.
Of course, I like travelling and I enjoy reading, especially British or American detective novels. I'm getting better at reading and understanding Spanish-language books as well.
I'm very interested in history, politics and economics, having taught these subjects during my career as a teacher.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a broad spectrum of music from blues, soul, rock and folk to some styles of jazz.
Some of my favourite movies from the past few years are 'Avatar' and the movie adaptations of the' Hunger Games' series of books.
Talking about books, two of my favourite authors in the field of crime & detection are Michael Connelly and Peter Robinson.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not sure it can be called amazing, but I'm quite proud of it. Last winter I produced my first CD with only my own songs on it with the help of a six-track digital recording device.
The other thing I'm proud of is my three-month backpacking trip through Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil, which I did alone and vastly enjoyed.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach German and English, explain German politics and history to people, but I'm also keen on learning new things, improving my knowledge of Spanish and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.
I enjoy sharing ideas and experiences with other people.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The ideal experience for me would be to come as guest and leave as a friend, sharing interesting conversations, good food and drink.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Egypt, France, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, Poland, Spain, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom
