Kindness, empathy and compassion are very important to me.

I'm trying to strike a balance between pursuing grand goals and being happy with where I am. It's difficult, but I'm getting there.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I haven't traveled very much and I think that's a shame. I want to experience more of the world and do so in a way that I can connect with people. Getting off the beaten path of airlines and hotel rooms seems appealing.

Interests

I've almost completed my chemistry degree and I enjoy studying almost anything science/technology/engineering related. I like to build things with my hands.

I have a group of good friends that I talk philosophy/psychology/sociology with. It's one of the most fulfilling things I do.

Physical fitness is hugely important to me. I grew up in martial arts, which I still practice from time to time. The last 4 years, my real love has been powerlifting. I dabble in yoga, running, and Olympic Lifting although I'm not very practiced at them.

I used to play guitar in a metal band, but that has fallen by the wayside. It's important for me to get back to making music in the near future.

I got a motorcycle spring of 2014. I am definitely a rider for life.

Music, Movies, and Books

There isn't much music I don't enjoy in some way. Most all breeds of metal, alt, folk, and indie rock, singer-songwriters, most genres of electronic dance music, a good deal of rap and hip-hop, a handful of oldies and classic rock, blues, jazz, punk, pop and a slough of classical and baroque works. A smattering of names would be Lamb of God, Animals as Leaders, The Flashbulb, Ben Howard, George Watsky, Motion City Soundtrack, John Butler Trio, Chet Baker and Chopin.

I like science fiction, fantasy, and action movies. Thought provoking, mind bending movies are cool. I can't turn down a good Kung Fu flick either. Some favorites are Kung Fu Hustle, Pulp Fiction, Hero, The Fifth Element, Her, and Forest Gump. I watch a bit of anime. Some of my favorites are Cowboy Bebop, Samuri Champloo, and Attack on Titan.

I wish I had more time to read. I like Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Love the Ender's Game series. I'm a bit of a Tolkien nut. Isaac Asimov is fun to read. Of Mice and Men is my favorite classic to date.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a bit of a clean freak, so I would love to help you clean. While I am decent cook, I don't have a very wide repertoire. I'm good at talking and listening; I love getting to know people. Sitting down for a good meal at a local joint would be great. My treat.
