About Me

I'm a university student who is trying to get out and see the world. I'm studying in Wellington, New Zealand for a year, and I couldn't be more excited. My current home of Oklahoma, USA has become increasingly frustrating as it attempts to stay in the past (especially in terms of religion and equality).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couch surfing because my friend and I need a place to stay for a couple of days when we arrive in Wellington. As students, we're trying to save all the money we can, and you just don't get to meet people by staying in a hotel. We would really love to have our first experience in Wellington be in the home of someone who loves the city enough to want to show travelers how great it is.

Interests

I love music, and I play acoustic guitar and sing. There are many subjects I am at least somewhat passionate about, and still quite a few that qualify for the "extreme passion" category. Philosophy and politics are, in my opinion, some of the most important subjects to discuss. I put pretty broad parameters on them to include things like science as well.
The son of a cajun, and a part-time hedonist, I love good food and good drinks (wine, beer, coffee). I love the complexity of taste, and I'm fascinated by how image and perceptions/conceptions that are unrelated to taste play such a huge role in the way we enjoy food at multiple levels.
Exploring unique and beautiful geographies gives me very much joy. Mountains, rivers, oceans, lakes, deserts, etc. fascinate me and make me yearn to see a world that is more connected with the Earth.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy all music, whether it's folk, rock, country, jazz, world, hip-hop/rap, or just about anything in between, I can get into it. Some of my favorites are the Dave Matthews Band, Hozier, Kid Cudi, and Norah Jones, but really that's way to short of a list.
As for movies, there are just too many to even start to list. I like anything with Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Steve Carell, Emily Blunt, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Jason Segal.
My favorite series is the Millennium Series by Stieg Larsson.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In third grade, I made a picture of a gorilla for art class. The teacher liked it so much that it is still on a huge display in the hall of my elementary school.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share a unique perspective on United States culture, music with my guitar, good conservation, and some decent cooking skills.
