ABOUT ME

My name is Ian. Quiet at times, motormouth at others. Friend to most, jack of all trades. I've done a lot of traveling and lived a bunch of places in the past, but for now I'm tied down working a 9-5 job, paying for a house, and raising a dog.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted and surfed extensively in the past. Now that I can, I've decided to become active, mostly with hosting again, in 2020.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

During the summer of 2012, I couchsurfed across the US, staying with at least 9 or 10 different people. I've also surfed a few times in Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, I hosted pretty frequently when I lived in Chicago.

Otherwise, most times I travel these days I stay at a friend's or acquaintance's place. Forget a hotel. It's not only more cost-effective, but fun as well. It's great to be able to get a local's perspective while traveling.

Too many musicians to list, but trance and house music is life. A bit of hip hop is cool too. I can jive with any type of music though.

Backpacking all around Australia and New Zealand.

Hopping out of a plane at 14,000 feet.

I've lived all over the US. Since leaving my home state of Virginia, I've lived in Seattle, Montana, Chicago, Alaska, and now, North Carolina.

One Chicago night in 2013 a few days after the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup, I was at a club for a show when the whole team randomly showed up with the Stanley Cup. The whole place went insane. One of the players marched it through the crowd and I touched it. I'm not really big into hockey, but it was pretty epic nonetheless.

I spent a few months during 2012 backpacking across the US.

I also spent the summer of 2012 living and working at a lodge in Glacier National Park in Montana. During this time, I hiked 100 miles, climbed a few mountains, including a 10,000 ft one, almost ran over a Grizzly bear, and worked on my inner mountain man.

Biked through the streets of Richmond, Virginia while wearing a giant bloody, smelly fish head chained around my neck for a bike scavenger hunt at Slaughterama 6 in 2009.

Literally log rode down the James River in Richmond (I do not recommend doing this)

Spent 7 marvelous years getting my Bachelor's degree.

Spent 3 weeks in Asia when I was 18, changed my life.

I always seek to experience and learn that which is unfamiliar, but I take a keen interest in music and nerdy subjects. My particular knowledge and interests lies in the following areas:
