About Me

Canada is always home for me, but I most recently lived in Boston on and off, from 2010-15. Having spent 2015-17 travelling through Africa, the Silk Road, and beyond, I'm looking forward to resettling in Vancouver, my hometown!

I may not be able to host couchsurfers at this time, but I can meet up, whether you're a traveller or a local.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've surfed a couple times, but my main thing has been hosting. Down to grab a coffee (decaf...) or drink too!

Enjoying wherever I'm living -- day trips, hikes, beach time, farm trips, festivals, bike rides, and all that. Planning for travel's another, and I enjoy the research that goes into a trip, as well as trying to pick up the language of wherever I'm going.

Otherwise, amateur photography, trying food from other countries, day hikes and long urban walks, digging through music blogs, language learning. Oh, and hats. I like hats. :)

I also write a blog while travelling: https://nolegroom.ca/

Music, Movies, and Books

More of a TV guy than film. Departures and the Amazing Race (at least the earlier seasons) made me yearn for travel. Everything else I watch are comedies: BoJack Horseman, Crazy Ex Girlfriend, and Master of None on the gut-punch/social commentary side, and Arrested Development, Better Off Ted, and Whose Line reruns for silly laughs.

Music wise, I'm a fan of indie rock/pop and soul, and I love a good concert once in awhile.

The few books I read per year tend to be historical fiction. On the other hand, I do read a whole lot of news, and am fascinated by politics around the world and in Canada, as well as issues relating to cultural identity.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

More than my fair share of independent travel!
