About Me

I'm a New York native, from Brooklyn in particular. I have roots in Ireland (county Offaly, up Offaly!) and family in London and Italy. I bicycle everywhere when I'm at home, unless it's snowing or something, and I don't know how to drive. I'm a very considerate person and just want to see more of what's out there, if you'd have me or if you stayed with me I'm sure you'd have a wonderful time and I wouldn't dream of giving you any trouble.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hey all! I'm really curious about the world, its people, languages, food and cities, I'd love to travel and host people who want to travel and see my native city New York. I love to talk in the languages I already know, and am always learning a new language. I don't have the money to afford hotels and hostels, but I don't want that to prevent me from seeing the world and meeting its many people.

Interests

I am very interested in learning about the history of the Global South and its leftist movements in particular. I play music in a couple of bands, one is Standing on the Corner (https://soundcloud.com/childrenofthecorner) and Prophet Thaddeus, this is one of the most important things to me. I also love learning languages and about other cultures, some languages that I hope to learn soon are Arabic, Portuguese, German, and Turkish but the list could go on much longer.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like old school music, anything from Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt, and Billie Holiday to Sly and the Family Stone, the Clash, the Beatles the Rolling Stones, David Bowie. I love salsa music, reggeaton, and Italian pop from the 60's.
I mainly read History books and Journals, but I really enjoyed Haruki Murakami's Kaffka on the Shore and Two Serious Ladies by Jane Bowles. I like movies a lot, James Bond movies, Star Wars, Blade Runner, I like Miyazaki a whole lot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Wow, not sure what qualifies as amazing, maybe just learning to appreciate people on their on terms and put aside my own anxiety.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can converse in English I'm very patient and talk frequently with non-native english speakers through conversation exchanges, I love learning about anyplace literally anywhere interests me. I'd also enjoy conversing with a native speaker of one of the languages I am currently learning or have studied already.
