About Me
Hello! My name is Jacob. I am a middle school math teacher who will be starting graduate school this fall studying organic nutrient distribution in Lake Superior. I am a very clean individual who respects the places that I stay.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am Couchsurfing because I want to explore! There are so many places both domestic and international that I have yet to see, and it is my greatest desire to see as much as I can. However, being a student and having little money complicates that, which is why I think Couchsurfing is so great.

I love all things outdoors. Hiking, biking, running, climbing, kayaking...you name it. I also enjoy meeting new people and hearing cool life stories.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: any rock, but especially 70's/80's rock & roll and progressive rock. I also like Ben Folds. And some good jazz, especially if it has some sassy saxophone.
Movies: Jim Carrey is my favorite actor, so I love all of his movies, especially "Yes Man" and "Dumb & Dumber". I am also fixated on the TV show "House of Cards". It is so good!
Books: Favorite book is "Dune", but I also enjoyed "The 6th Extinction".
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In the summer after my second year of undergraduate study, my friend and I bought an inflatable raft, along with all of the necessary supplies. Then, we paddled down the Mississippi River, through storms and around triple-wide barges, battling sunburns and angry bald eagles, confronting 4 foot swells in a raft that was hardly designed for calm waters. It took us two full days of paddling and a night full of pouring rain and lightning on an island being passed by what seemed like 50 barges, all making sure to honk their horns right as they passed our island, for us to complete our 45 mile trip. Oh yeah, and all we brought to eat was some beef jerky and a couple pb&j's. And during one of the storms, water got into the pb&j bag.
This was without a doubt one of the best experiences of my life.
