I'm a 28-year-old sound designer for videogames, film and TV! I currently work at a game studio in Vancouver, Canada and love life all the while. I used to teach guitar (from grandparents to grandchildren) for a living, and I have a passion for all things musical. I love language, and always want to learn more!
5 things I couldn't live without:
- my bicycle
- a group of warm-hearted friends to play music with
- my meditation pillow
- a great cup of coffee and a great conversation
"Just keep doing what you love to do, and do it with as much intensity as possible." - Andrew WK
While I'm (probably thankfully!) not as intense as Andrew WK, this sums it up. Find what you love to do, and do it as much as you possibly can. If you can share the joy, then do so, and be as friendly, helpful, compassionate and loving as you can to everybody you meet.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on Couchsurfing to help contribute to making the "other" feel a bit less "other" for myself and everybody I meet. To make the world a more loving place, and to learn as much as I possibly can from every person I interact with.
Each person you meet to has a lifetime worth of lessons to teach you, and Couchsurfing is an incredible way to learn from those people.
Music, movies, guitar, singing, language, writing, people, taking photographs, teaching. Everything, really!
Music, Movies, and Books
Any movie, good or bad, has something to love. I have a strange love of romantic comedies for some reason. A few favourites are Her, The Shining, American Psycho, Love Actually, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Whiplash, 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Literally any style of music is good for me, but here are some of my favourite albums:
Brand New's "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me"
Vulfpeck's "Thrill of the Arts"
American Football's "American Football"
The Tallest Man On Earth's "Shallow Grave"
Free Throw's "Those Days Are Gone"
Braid's "Frame and Canvas"
Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue"
Vince Guaraldi's "A Charlie Brown Christmas"
Some of my favourite books:
Henry David Thoreau's "Walden"
Stephen King's "The Shining"
Sogyal Rinpoche's "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying"
Craig Thompson's "Blankets"
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
About five years ago, I was in a band and we decided to go on tour. Our tour was planned, for some reason, for the dead of winter in northern Canada. As we were about an hour outside of our first tour stop, we ran out of gas at about 4am. It was incredibly cold outside, pitch black, and on the highway at that time barely anybody passes by. Eventually we were able to flag down a truck to take one of us into town to get gas. The rest of us stayed in the pitch black night and sang songs to each other to keep spirits high :)
The fact that we made it to the rest of the tour without succumbing to our foolishness is still amazing to me!
Teach, Learn, Share
Having spend a few years of my life teaching guitar, I can definitely help with that! I love philosophy and good conversation so I feel like there is much to learn there for both me and you! Share with me your experiences and I'll share with you mine :)
What I Can Share with Hosts
A warm heart and a good cup of coffee or pint!
