About Me

Be happy, duh...

Im James, 21 years old, been living in London for the past 3 years studying. In a nut shell to bring you up to speed.... Just finished a 3 year degree in Economics. ow graduated I am taking a year out to travel, focus on family and friends and am starting a job in management consultancy in september. I hope to have as much fun as I can between now and then, starting off by travelling south america from feb 2013. Starting in rio for carnaval and then heading around the whole continent. I will finish in washington DC and NYC and return home in time for Glasto 2013. Then who knows in the summer... Free to do anything! Free to host from sept 2013 when I move back into town.

About me.... I like to think I am a down to earth, open minded guy. I like to get on with people, find common ground wherever I go. Have the philosophy that someone new is a friend until proved otherwise... (Pretty cheesy but these things always are, hey?)

My main passion is music. I have an eclectic taste in music, mostly stuff with guitars... enjoy 60s 70s rock (beatles, stones, jefferson airplane, currently loving the tune crimson and clover by tommy james and the shondells), soul and motown (otis redding and clay, supremes, temptations etc) reggae, house, hip hop, blah blah blah. Current favourite artists are strokes (always), brian jonestown massacre, devendra banhart, toro y moi, bonobo, radioooooohead. Could go on for hours and hours... As long as you have a taste in smething Im sure we will have plenty in common!

See below for interests.

As for partying, more the chilled kind of guythan clubclubclub dancedancedance but do enjoy it nonetheless. I prefer a good gig, blues bar or small club than a massive one, you know. Down for anything really!

I really want to explore new stuff, new cultures, meet new people over the next 6 months. I think that couchsurfing if the way to meet likemnded people who know the place/city themselves. I prefer the idea of an independent experience as opposed to a day tripper, straight out of guidebook experience. And of course saving on hostel costs would be a massive bonus... Not gonna lie!

Add me on fb or on skype: james.cottam1

Too little/ to in depth!? I dont know how this works....

My ambition is just to be happy. As long as I am happy the rest will take care of it itself, I guess.

I tend to stay away from politics.... Its all catch 22 to me, i mean, you only ever really talk about it with another person if you disagree... I do have opinions of course. From a social standpoint i am very liberal, as many of my friends are. I cant tolerate intolerant people

Religion, respect them all, cant make my mind up!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Making a general profile for now, will be useful for surfing hosting in the future. As mentioned, will not be able to host until sept 2013.

Wll be travelling south america from feb 2013 with my good friend rachel.... Might be looking for some surfing experiences there... If not then definitely in NYC!

None.. Have friends that rave about it.

Music, see above. Sharing music is a big one for me, i am a spotify fiend.

Festivals, reading (joseph heller is the man) chilling, catching up with friends, football to play, all sports to watch, volunteering (only once, not going to lie, but want to do more), partying, hosted a radio show once, hosted a pub quiz back when i worked in a pub... Always busy.

Music, Movies, and Books

Tarantino is the man...

Louis Theroux for prime minister

David Attenborough the ultimate dinner party guest

Books... Joseph Heller is my favourite author, yet to read material from a funnier authour, imo.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not enough.

I met and had a 45 minute personal speech from US congressman John Lewis once. He was good friends with Martin Luther King and is now a close friend of Barack Obama. THE most charismatic, passionate man who has achieved the most of any person I have ever met. Look him up!

Teach, Learn, Share

If someone can teach me how to make an origami swan/crane i'd very much appreciate it.
