About Me

I have two upcoming trips planned. One to Georgia and Poland(28.12.14-18.1.15) and the other is to Latvia(6.2.15-10.2.15). This year I turned 30 and I recently realised that Latvia is going to be the 30th country I will have visited. Maybe I'll try to visit ten more in the next ten years, 40 by 40.

I lived in the South Korean city of Gwangju for a year working as a English teacher and it was one of the most interesting years of my life. After teaching I travelled around Korea couchsurfing, staying with local Koreans as well as expats from New Zealand and England, photographing my experiences on 35mm and medium format film and making some short video pieces.

Living in a place is so different to just travelling through so it is my goal over the next few years to simply live in some more new places. Next year I am going to spend the year living in Melbourne, Australia and after that somewhere in New Zealand, although I haven't decided where yet. After that I want to head back to Europe and study in Germany, Netherlands, Sweden or Finland, again I'm not quite sure what course but right now I'm thinking about maybe a Documentary MA in Helsinki or Public Art and New Artistic Strategies MFA in Weimar, Germany. After I'd like to live in Amsterdam for a couple of years. We'll see!

I am an artist mostly making films and photographic installations but the way I want to work and exhibit is changing drastically. Occasionally I exhibit sculptures and drawings and all these elements connect in various ways. Travelling ties into my work as I am interested in societal and cultural homogenisation.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted when I lived in Gwangju and couchsurfed all over South Korea as well.

I will be travelling to Georgia and Poland in December/January so hoping to stay with some great people who can share knowledge with me and contribute to the film I'll be working on in Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi.

Couchsurfing is so much better than staying in hotels and hostel because you actually meet people who live and know the place they live in. You see and experience things you would never see if you just stayed in a Hotel.

Music, Movies, and Books

Like to watch a lot of films. This year I saw Symbiopsychotaxiplasm and that has had a massive influence on me. Just watch it!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Kayaking in Lan Ha Bay, Vietnam.

Teach, Learn, Share

As English is my first language I can help you learn it. Saying that, I think many ESL students understand English grammar better than English people do!

What else... I know quite a bit about photography so if you are just getting into it I can help you understand your camera and introduce you to photographers' work.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have stories to tell and I want to hear yours too. I have travelled quite a bit so I can give you tips if you are planning to visit any of the countries below.
