About Me

stay humble

I am a lawyer with a doctorate on peacebuilding after war, settling into being a professor. After interviewing human rights activists around the world (humbling and fascinating), I have to grow up and get a job! But I'll be teaching subjects I love, so there are worse fates. I'm also a yoga teacher, salsa dancer, hiker, cyclist, burner (as in Burning Man, not stoner), world traveler, complex, stable, multi-lingual all around open minded gal from Berkeley who now calls Toronto home.

Stay honest with yourself and know that there is no "right" way to be.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I hang out with lots of couchsurfers and spread the word. I have stayed with people in different countries and am always impressed. I try to meet up with people when they come to the bay and help find housing if I cannot host. In Colombia, I went to weekly CS activities including language exchanges, movie nights and my FAVORITE activity, walking the streets to hand out bread and talk to people living there. I love CS.

Made a nice community of couchsurfers while living in various countries, they have been my saving grace as I developed and executed my research. I meet up with those in town, have given craigslist rides to some, host when I can, and enjoy the search. I had one bad experience with a host but, otherwise, think some of my hosts would be my best friends if we lived in the same place.

LEARNING! I love to dance, love to travel and meet interesting people who think deeply about why they are here and what they want to do to contribute to the world. Natural beauty. Integrity. I practice yoga for the spiritual aspect and have been teaching for almost a decade now. Studying languages has been a passion. Working with survivors of conflict. Personal relationships. Long hikes.

Music, Movies & Books

The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a masterpiece. I love Tom Robbins.
Movies...partial to Gus Van Sant but open to anything that gets me feeling.
Music....totally depends on the mood. Dancing is huge for me but I love good old acoustic rock. Just got into Joshua Radin, as generic as that might be.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Half a dozen times, I have created a full life for myself in a very short period of time. I love this.

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmm, family background of people in alternative medicine and psychology. I know lots about those fields, as well as my own field of conflict resolution. Gandhian nonviolence principles. Yoga, for sure, but not the current trendy stuff.
