About Me

to have a successful move from Brooklyn to Detroit!

[always mission] to have significant times

basically, i'm a social critic. but a cute, amusing one.

my boyfriend says that that little factoid is sort of scary...that you (proverbial reader) would think i would judge you. but i never even thought of that option!

i like philosophy and psychology and science and math and art and making art and people and writing short poems and dancing and things that are cute and sharing love and asking questions and being silly and discovering new things and and infinity.

Absurdity gives us freedom.

after a bender, turned enlightenment, my bff and i came up with the ultimate truth: when be and do intersect at know, there is. i've started a manifesto explaining it and its significance. ask me about it if you'd like. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

surfing, hosting, exchanging selves

in the process of moving, will update on settling. grateful to have the CS community as a resource during this time. :)

After some nice surfing experiences, my bf and I recently decided to open our apt for hosting. But we're not really interested in just providing lodging, we'd like to share knowledge and experiences and feel some sort of connection. This does not mean that we're seeking to hang out all the time or require you to tell us your deep, dark secrets. I think we're just seeking significant interaction and good vibes.

So, I've recently had my first CS experience in Philadelphia with a wonderful lad named Topher; twas quite fun!

Amir and Greg were the bomb diggity, yo. I love Chicagoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I had so much fun with all of the other couchsurfers in NY. I hope my next CS experience will have as many awesome people in the same place!

Surfing New Orleans for the weekend showed me that I can still find awesomeness in a place I *thought* I knew. Bobby's the shit.

Nick and Veronica were radtastic. I'm so pleased I could show them little bits of Jackson and I know for a fact that I will see them again. And I am excite for then. Ha

Brandon was so gracious and sweet in Austin; an all-around great person.

Thanks to Dave for his place in Detroit.

Molly, we liked a lot. She embodied the spirit of CS.

Tom, we liked much less as he tried to be pushy and manipulative. :/

We didn't meet Matt and Morgan but let them stay in our apt anyway... which I think speaks to who they are and who we are.

Thanks to Mars and Ryan and their rockin' house in Detroit. Thanks for sharing yourselves.

I like absurdity and stuff on the ground/things that have been thrown away/disposed of/left behind/trash.

The web bio I wrote for my job says "in her free time, Jami likes dancing, going on adventures, and talking about oppression." I think it's pretty apt.

Music, Movies, and Books

L.I.E/Green Mile/Science of Sleep/ Shortbus/Secretary/Magnolia /The Professional

These are the first things that popped into my head but if I had to rank them, Magnolia would be first every time.

I like music that sounds good. Music that's honest and has soul..genre doesn't matter. Also (!) music to dance to! I'm not certain, but blues, funk, big band, swing etc is probably my favorite music to dance to.

I'm really into non-fiction sociology/psychology/political philosophy type books. i'm trying to study as much as i can about the black radical tradition before i begin grad school in the fall and will be incapable of reading for fun!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can describe nothing in my life so far as amazing. but maybe i'm playing semantic games with myself..

Teach, Learn, Share

I don't really know what specific skills I have. Obviously, I'm useful at stuff, who isn't...? I like talking about oppression?

i love learning! but who doesn't like learning? oh, i guess there must be someone but jeez. i'm always so delighted at people's knowledge!
