About Me

Moin everyone,
I'm Jana-Kristin Essen, 20 years old. I'm from Kiel, the capital of Germany's most northern state and home to one of the most important ports in the country. I graduated high school in Germany in July 2016 and started my Disney Cultural Representative Program in Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida right after. I started as a hostess in the Biergarten restaurant in Germany Pavillion in Epcot, working in Quick Service, Stocking and Seating until I went into service after eight months. This year has shown me that I really enjoy interacting with other people, representing my culture and learning about other people's stories and cultures. Sharing an apartment with three girls from China, a girl from France and three girls from the United States I was able to both, share my culture as well as get to know their habits and different ways of living. I might have only been able to pick up a few words in Chinese during this year, but I can say that I had the chance to improve my English, French and Spanish dealing with guests from all over the world.
Growing up my parents took us (my sister and me) to many different countries including many European countries and the Dominican Republic and during my year in Florida I was able to travel to different parts of the United States, but knowing that there is so much more I would love to get to know as many different countries and cultures as possible.
After my program ended I got the chance to help out in a Bed&Breakfast in Victoria (Canada) as well as in a Family Glamping Resort in Quebec (Canada) and two guesthouses in Nagoya and Okinawa (Japan) and now I will be starting a mixture of college and apprenticeship in the hotel business in September.
In my time off I'm a very active person, trying to see and do as many things as possible, but also practicing many different types of sports including gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, horseback riding and kayaking.
I'm really looking forward to exploring the world by meeting interesting and open people; I think there is no better way of getting to know a culture than sharing someone else's life!
See you soon!
