One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the summer of 2008 I had just finished running at the Olympic trials held in Eugene, Oregon, and I was staying with a professional sprinter at his house in Portland. We went to a place called the "high rocks" along the Clackamas river, which is a very popular local swimming hole. It was my first time there and there were at least one thousand others who were all around. There were many places to jump off of, but only three main rocks that were reserved for the "studs" and everyone would watch in awe as people would do back flips and dive through the air into the water below. I'm not going to lie, I was terrified and avoided those three rocks as long as I could without looking lame to my friends.. but inevitably we wound up jumping off each one. But the moment that makes this story something I'm proud of is when I did a gainer off of the 40 ft height with all those people watching and it was my first time jumping from that height and doing a gainer. From then on I have learned to put my fear aside and LIVE!
