ABOUT ME

I will be entering my senior year at the University at Buffalo, where I study behavioral psychology. This past semester I studied in Florence, which was a complete eye-opening and wonderful experience. By meeting new people, eating delicious food and exploring a new country, I grew very close to a culture that I had only read about. I'm now back in NYC and working at a day camp for kids in Harlem, which has also been a growing and eye-opening experience.

PHILOSOPHY

Our lives take us through alternating patterns of travel-life and home-life, which offer their respective experiences. Students are in a unique situation in that we tend to rely on creative forms of currency, as we have little money. So for me, sleeping on one couch while traveling and offering my couch while staying at home is the perfect cross-cultural and mutually beneficial exchange for students in similar situations.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a student with a neglible disposal income, and sleeping on couches for free while meeting new and interesting people sounds like the perfect travel arrangement. I live in New York where hostels tend to be expensive, so I look forward to sharing my couch to fellow surfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Although I am new to CouchSurfing, I am very familiar with its concept. My friends and I have permanent residences on one another's couches that are all dispersed around the States. We don't have much money to spend on accomodations, so we choose to sleep on our sofas.

Interests

I am very interested in early childhood development through alternative forms of education. I was fortunate to attend a school where we learned through hands-on applications of concepts we thought out together. I foresee myself participating in an educational environment that teaches children the importance of living responsibly on our planet by various hands-on projects and field trips.

Music, Movies, and Books

My taste for movies alternates between the classics and contemporary films. Some of my favorite new ones are American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction.

Music- Edward Sharpe, The Beastie Boys, the Black Keys, Yeasayer, Spoon, Ratatat

Books: Shantaram, On the Road, Catcher in the Rye, Time Machine, Great expectations, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Oliver Twist, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For the past ten summers of my life, I was a camper in the Berkshire Mountains with my best friends. We all grew up together and eventually got to be counselors ourselves. We led activities, trips and events and were responsible for helping 15-20 kids have the best summer of their lives - as our counselors once did for us.

Teach, Learn, Share

This past semester in Florence I had the joy to finally learn how to cook. I have learned some pretty incredible recipes that I'd love to share with fellow surfers. Education is very important to me, and I love finding new things to learn - like cooking!
