About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience as many cultures and places as I can so that I can use this as inspiration to become a famous novelist.

ABOUT ME

Creative, slightly odd (comes with the artiness), a perfectionist when it comes to my work, a Gemini through and through and a bit of a fashionista! I often find myself correcting the English on exam papers - bad English drives me crazy! I feel I have spent way too much time studying - 7 years, 2 degrees (Genetics and Information Design which is like Graphic Design just broader) and would like to do some travelling now...

PHILOSOPHY

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
One lives and learns - take something away from your mistakes and experiences. Grow as a person and then it can never be a waste.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would like to meet new people and learn new things. When I have a house of my own, I'll have a couch available :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None so far... I have just signed up.

Interests

I flippin' love anime and I am currently teaching myself Japanese. I love to read - Science Fiction and fantasy novels, with Terry Pratchett being my favourite but I dote on Robert Jordan, Steven Erikson, Brandon Sanderson, Jonathan Stroud and George R.R. Martin. I would like to be a famous novelist one day. My other dream, going to teach English in Japan, is coming true in a mere 2 months so I am taking it as a sign of good things to come! If I weren't a graphic designer, I would be a fashion designer - clothes and fashion complete me... and don't get me started on how much I adore shoes... I am a dog person as I am allergic to cats and I do not like little dogs - I have a Great Dane and he is fabulous. So that's me in a nutshell, oh and I like drawing and painting and getting dirty in an artistic way, which means paint on the hands, a smudge on the nose and funny marks on your apron, but I do not like getting dirty in the rolling around in the mud, let's go visit the farm kind of way. I studied Genetics which included Microbiology (bacteria, fungi, viruses) and Zoology (insects, parasites, animals, birds) so I am a bit of a germaphobe and I will always worry about things like ticks if I go camping (hey, I saw what the nasty buggers look like under a microscope, can you blame me?). Thus one can conclude that I am a city girl. Also you can't wear heels if you go camping - I like heels.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: The Little Mermaid = my fav Disney movie. I generally like animated movies, and some romcoms and action films but I hate horror!
Music: mainstream pop and rock - people like Tailor Swift and Adam Lambert, Kings of Leon etc. But I like the Beatles, The Beach Boys, Alana Myles (Black Velvet)and Elvis. So I have quite broad tastes - I don't really like jazz, rap or metal where screaming rather than singing predominates though.
Books: SciFi and fantasy is it for me, everything else just bores me. I love Terry Pratchett as he uses a lot of biological terms like "Brownian motion" (the movement of cytoplasm in a cell)and "echinoderm" (the scientific name for the Phylum that starfish belong to) and I get them because I studied Genetics. It's like sharing a personal joke with the author. Brandon Sanderson is currently my new crush as I have just finished reading his new book, The Way of Kings. It is amazing and makes me hopeful of one day getting to his level (it took him 20 years to get the manuscript for that series ready).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Went skiing in Samoens, France, and didn't die (ie. by falling off the mountain or skiing into a tree).

Teach, Learn, Share

If you ever want to learn how to draw or paint, I'm your woman! I am a good illustrator and getting arty is very relaxing which most people do not know. Art is a great way to set your problems aside and let your mind go blank... much like watching TV but with the added benefit that you actually produce something at the end of it; something that you can be proud of and say, "I made this."
