Hello! A bit about me...
I've been on couchsurfing since my early twenties when I was quite dedicated to long term backpacking. In those days there was plenty of hitchhiking, couchsurfing, "urban camping" and other adventures in that milieu (Full disclosure: I had to double check the definition of "milieu" before using it here)... I was quite identified with it at the time. I'm about to turn 30 this summer and filling out this profile again is giving me pause to reflect on how much I've mellowed out! Aside from my numerous sabbaticals I've mostly lived in San Francisco and worked as an engineer for various tech companies. After backpacking I got relatively settled in and you might even say "career focused" - though I'll spare you all the qualifications I'm neurotically compelled to follow that statement with :) But by that I mean I've had some semblance of routine. I enjoy my coffee in the morning, I spend an inordinate amount of time in the produce section of Whole Foods, I have a steady flow of deliveries from Amazon... I even have my own Netflix subscription, which my friends leech off of. In short: I sold out, man.
That said, I've had some new adventures in the past year. I've been in a weird sort of limbo between living/working in San Francisco and traveling, with the vague intention of planting in New York before too long. Out of pure indecision, rather than necessity per se, I've been bouncing around airbnbs and sublets and living out of my car in between frantic excursions out of the country. At the time of the writing of this profile (May 2016) however a plan is finally taking shape, in the form of: 1) a road trip across the US, 2) living out a few long-standing traveling dreams over the course of a few months and 3) getting started in New York in the fall with a renewed commitment to adulthood in my 30's, Netflix and all.
SO, here I am updating my couchsurfing profile! I'm looking forward to reconnecting with the world outside my routine, meeting new people, and letting life happen on its own. Looking forward to meeting!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've surfed, I've hosted, I've shown people around and gone to meetups, and it's all great! But it's been a couple years since I've participated. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and making connections.
Technology, meditation, neuroscience, psychology, art, hiking.
Music, Movies, and Books
Radiohead & the other Thom Yorke projects, Panda Bear & friends (like pantha du prince) ... I also listen to the podcast "Meet the Composer" which I highly recommend, and have gotten into some composers I've discovered there (Nico Muhly, John Luther Adams)
For movies, I like Wes Anderson, Whit Stillman, Woody Allen, classics like Death of a Salesman, 12 Angry Men... I also quite like the muppets. The Muppets Take Manhattan is quite an important film to me.
For books, too many.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was fortunate enough to be in Tunis during the 2011 revolution, and was able to join in the demonstrations. A year and a half later I started working at Twitter!
