Our mission is to see more, live more, and learn more in the world, both for personal growth and for the growth of the interconnected world.
Jeffrey: I have lived in Ashland for 7 years now, and I have had the joy of filling my life with friends, hard work in school, and artistic growth primarily through theatre. I have been acting since I was 6, and the stage has been my primary mode of growth since then. I was also a valedictorian (which means I got really good grades, in case that's not translatable) in my graduating class from high school, and have worked hard in various leadership positions. Thanks partially to those two factors, I was accepted to Yale University, which I will attend in the fall. It will be a completely new experience for me - I never expected to be accepted, but I look forward to my time there. First and foremost in my life, though, have been the connections that I have built with those around me. I feel incredibly blessed by those whom I call my closest friends, and it is my greatest hope that I will be able to carry those friendships forward and find new ones in my future.
Vieve: I was born in Ashland Oregon on a 160 acre piece of land out in the countryside of Ashland. I live and have lived my whole life with my mom and my younger sister (17 years old). I am passionate about many things in life. I love music of all kinds and have sung and played the piano and cello since I was very little. I plan to further my education and love for music when I go away to college. It will always be a huge part of my life. I am also very passionate about traveling and learning about different cultures. I have traveled a lot with my family and my favorite places have been places such as Indonesia and India, because of the stark and unique cultural differences. I know that traveling will always be in my future. I am very excited to have learned about couch surfing, because I think it will allow me to travel all the more and to meet more interesting people all around the world. I look forward to meeting you!
Jeffrey and Vieve: We have been dating since the summer after our freshman year of high school. We've been through a lot together, a lot of growth and a lot of stressful times. Through it, though, we have remained fast friends and lovers. We have also worked together on several projects, one of which took place this spring, when I (Jeffrey writing at the moment) assistant directed the spring play at our high school and Vieve was in charge of the music for the production. The two of us worked hard to arrange and create the mood-enhancing music that would play at different points in the show. That is an example of what our relationship is like: we are friends, partners, and co-workers. And finally, a note on couples in general: I understand that some hosts would be less eager to host a young couple, worrying that the two would be awkwardly and disrespectfully romantic a lot. Let me assure you (and our friends can attest to this fact), we are not one of those couples. We feel no pressure to reaffirm how we feel about each other in public, and even less so in the privacy of your home, should we stay there. We understand and firmly hold to the belief that there is a time and a place for everything.
I live life for connection and compassion. That's what draws me to theatre: I love the connections that form between cast mates, an actor and his or her role, the audience and a company, a company and the source material... the list goes on. And creating art such as theatre is, I believe, our way as humans to try to understand ourselves and each other. From understanding springs compassion. I strongly believe that if we all lived with more connection and compassion in our lives, the world would be a more fun, harmonious, and loving place. I therefore see it as my personal mission to spread connection and compassion wherever I go.
Some quotes that guide me: "Live as if you were living for the second time, and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now!" - Viktor Frankl. "If it isn't right, don't do it. If it isn't true, don't say it." - Marcus Aurelius. "On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." - Saint-Exupéry
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We are new to the Couch Surfing project, and at the moment are only surfers (seeing as we both are heading off to college very soon). My (Jeffrey's) parents are interested in creating a hosting account, though, in lovely Ashland.
Like I said, we are brand new, but we can't wait to have our first experience.
Anything that we are interested in? That's difficult: theatre (musicals and plays), film (both watching and making), literature, journalism, tennis, nature, camping, hiking, traveling, the ocean, the stars, open discussions, thinking, pushing myself, music (viola and cello), organizing events, spontaneous meetings with friends, frisbee, blueberries, history, philosophy, Shakespeare, Italian food, French culture, French language,
