About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get to Burning Man in the Nevada Desert!

ABOUT ME

before I tell you my life story I'd just like to add:

I'm looking other like minded individuals who are interested in getting together a troupe for Burning Man 2014!!!!

I don't have many friends interested in going, but I promised myself I would get there, so I just wanted to put out some feelers and see if there is anyone else who would have me :)

if you need anymore information about me I'd be happy to oblige, I'm on Facebook too I'd just appreciate a message before you add me please.

So anyway my Grandfather used to be a crocodile hunter in Papua New Guinea before I was born, (that's where my dad grew up) and then in 1972 he brought like heaps of huge crocs with him on a boat over to Australia, and set up and Crocodile zoo on a tiny tourist Island off the coast of Cairns, Queensland.

My mum came over to work at the Green Island Resort when she was 18 from Brisbane. Well yeah anyway so mum and dad hit it off, got married and starting working for the family business and then my brother and me came along.

I spent the first 12 years of my life living there, we both did School of the Air (home school) up until grade 7 and 8 because Green Island is literally tiny. Back in the day we used radios to check in with our teachers on the mainland and stuff but these days they use telephone. We'd have a home tutor come over on the boat every school day to help us out with the coursework we were sent in the mail, (because our parents were busy running the croc park!) and when we were finished our work we'd just post it back to the school to get graded.

So basically I spent much of my childhood snorkelling, diving, fishing, exploring, learning and playing pranks on tourists. Didn't have many friends, but crocodiles and turtles were a good compromise.

When I was 12 originally I was going to be sent to boarding school in Cairns like my older Brother, but mum and dad had decided to move to the mainland for awhile and buy a house. I went to an all girls school for two years and found it pretty hard to fit in... it was a bit of an adjustment going from the middle of the Great Barrier Reef to stepping inside a classroom for the first time.

After that I changed schools to a Co-ed Private school and had the time of my life. I'll never forget those three years of high-school, made some kick-ass friends and learned some hard lessons. Graduating with average grades I went straight into the work force - primarily hospitality for a good three years, again made some good friends and learned good skills; but I definitely don't miss working for the man.

Now I'm back to my roots, working for my family on Green Island. The croc park is a really cool place to work... I can stay on the Island whenever I like, but usually I prefer to live in town and just be a bit more social. My work is really fun and interesting, I host the feeding shows alongside my Brother, and I get to do a bit of work in the gift shop too.

We actually own "The Largest Crocodile in Captivity in the World" according to the Guinness World Records, so it's pretty sweet when you tell people you feed the biggest croc in the world every other day. My Grandfather and my family name are actually pretty famous in the Crocodile world. If you've ever been there you'll know its a really great place.

Anyway that's my story - I'm surrounded by my family working one of the greatest jobs in the world on paradise island smack in the middle of one of the seven wonders of the world. I still love diving and snorkelling, I feel a true and great connection and passion towards to ocean, the Great Barrier Reef and all it's inhabitants - its my home after all.

I've developed a love of Australian wildlife and get to interact with amazing people and cultures from all over the world on a daily basis.

So basically I've got Australia covered, now I just need to get out there and discover the rest of the world!
