Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

I want to inspire and be equally inspired by life and the people in it.

ABOUT ME

I'm a singer/songwriter for a local Knoxville folk band; I am currently a graduate student (studying journalism).

PHILOSOPHY

"I with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naïve or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman." [Anais Nin, Henry and June]

"It has always seemed strange to me that the things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the product of the second." [John Steinbeck, Cannery Row]

It is impossible to convey the life-sensation of any given epoch of one's existence-- that which makes its truth, its meaning-- its subtle and penetrating essence. It is impossible. We live, as we dream--alone..."
[Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness]

"Nature is to a zoo; as God is to a church." [Margaret Atwood, Oryx & Crake]

"Fiction writers are not customarily persons in the best of mental health." [Kurt Vohnegut, Jr.]

"I think we're moving toward such a strange time. A time when all our moral choices will be complicated and comprised by our love of progress." [Michel Faber, the Crimson Petal and the White]

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." [Ferris Bueller]

Life may be scary, but it's only temporary!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My boyfriend and I traveled for 6-weeks out west, and I surfed on a few couches while traveling. I had an amazing experience, and now I feel I should give back to those traveling through my neck of the woods.

We have a couch available to anyone who would like to crash. We're walking distance to downtown and right next to the interstate. We're also very knowledgeable about the area, and we would be happy to help any traveler with questions.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed while traveling for 6 weeks through the Tetons, Yellowstone, Missoula, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Kansas City, etc.

I have recently opened up my couch to surfers. Seems only fair after all the traveling I did. :)

Interessi

I'm not shy, and I'm usually down for anything (within the limits of the law). I like pubs and places where you can hear each other talk without shouting.

I can be conversationally versatile. I tend to gravitate towards people who enjoy sharing life stories and personal philosophies. I'm open to political discussions as long as they don't get too serious! I also enjoy discussing theology/spirituality (understand that I am non-religious, though). I like discussing beer, books, and music (of course!). I DON'T like conversations that stay on the surface, that constantly revolve around tv-series and movies, that are gossipy and full of negativity, that are religious, that are laced in "cool" lingo, apathy, one-upping, and inside jokes.

I like to walk places.

Additionally, I'm a 20-something female who currently lives in Knoxville, TN. I'm a musician, and a soon-to-be (in debt) Grad Student. My boyfriend and I traveled together to Seattle, WA this summer. We did a 6-week trip, passing through Illinois, Wisconsin, Montana, South Dakota, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, and Kansas (to name a few).

I'm a big fan of National Parks. I did a one-month camping trip through the Tetons and Yellowstone when I was in college, and I interned in the Smoky Mountains a few years back.

I also share my boyfriend's passion for everything craft beer!

We both have separate bands: his is an indie pop group and mine is a high energy folk band.
