About Me

I returned to the DC area to be near family, after being away for 20 years. I enjoy biking near the water, kayaking, and just walking in the many wooded areas we have nearby. DC has much to offer and I like being rooted in my community. I work with kids in the mental health field and love it. I and also enjoy getting away to travel and meet people and do new things. I love to be on or near the water or the mountains and seek out live music and sun wherever I go. I like to feel at home wherever I stay. I like dancing but I don't party. When I travel I often turn in early so I can get up and explore something in nature.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I often travel alone and have always used hostels and Airbnb, so I'm excited to try Couchsurfing. The idea of people who have never met connecting through hosting is pretty amazing. Hostels have been a great fit for me as a solo traveler, but I enjoy smaller settings, so Couchsurfing seems appealing for the more intimate setting of staying in one person/family's home. I don't put a high value on amenities, and tend towards budget travel, so Couchsurfing is a fit for me in that sense, too!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm into tacos and curries right now. All kinds
Love my Netflix documentaries. Watching High on the Hog at present, a show about roots of African American cuisine.
I'm in an adoption process so I'm reading a lot of stuff about adoption, single parenting, and child development these days. In general I love to read whatever friends recommend or gift me, which leads to memoirs about faith, tomes on equity in the U.S., Spanish-language novels from Spain and South and Central America.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm afraid of heights and had an amazing paragliding experience in Medellin, Colombia

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a certified yoga teacher and have tutored folks in Spanish. Other than that, I can teach you the hiking paths in walking distance from my place!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm hoping my company is enough. I enjoy playing cards, singing and playing guitar, and just enjoying a quiet evening. Or going dancing and doing partner dancing (salsa, bachata)
