Hmm, quick summary of me: I'm an archaeologist/magician/atheist who wants to see the world.
In more detail:
I'm a geek. I'm proud of it. I watch a lot of science fiction (Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, etc) and I read a lot. I literally feel naked without a book. I'm a huge Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan and the TV series "The Prisoner" was one of the most brilliant shows ever created.
I'm an archaeologist. I work full time for a commercial archaeology firm and I get paid to play in the dirt all day. I spent three years digging lithic scatters and Iroquoian villages in Canada and I am currently digging up London.
I'm Canadian. I moved to London to dig up something different in the dirt and to see a bit of the world. And just see what it is like to just pick up and leave and start a new life in another country. I've caught the travel bug and I'm just itching to see more of the world.
I'm a magician. I've been studying close-up magic for about a year and a half now and it is rapidly becoming a part of my lifestyle. I am never without a deck of cards and I practice all the time. I love it.
I'm an atheist. I generally have no problem with people having their beliefs as long as they respect my rights not to share them. But I'm friendly and happy to discuss the meaning of life, the universe and everything. Or just shut up and have a drink.
I like sports. Not watching sports, so much, but playing them. My job is very physical and gets me into good shape but I've always played sports on the side too. I'm a second degree brown belt in Shotokan karate and I've played fastpitch softball since I was 6 years old. I've also done a few triathlons amongst other things. Fun times!
I have been told that I am relentlessly energetic. I think I'm a good mix. I like to be busy and I am never bored. I'm just as happy lying on a couch watching a movie as I am sitting by a campfire with a bunch of marshmallow.
In general, I'm a fairly happy, quirky person.
I'm a happy atheist. I don't believe in life after death and this makes me want to make the most out of the time that I have. I believe that people are generally good and I want to meet more of them. I think that good deeds can cause other good deeds and I hope that I have impacted people positively.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm new to the couch surfing world! I only heard about it recently but I absolutely love the idea. I love the way it emphasizes that strangers can be great and friendly, not necessarily creepy. I'm looking forward to meeting people and as soon as I get a home and a couch, it will be open for visitors.
To be announced. Hopefully very soon.
Hmm, I already listed a lot of things in my "about me" section.
Random list: Reading, travelling, visiting English pubs, meeting strange people, attempting to learn new languages, digging up dead stuff, listening to random music ranging from Harry Chapin to the Ricky Gervais show, petting my cat and worshipping the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
- performing arts
- pub crawls
- watching sports
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I've always been a casual music fan. I've never really latched on to any band or even collect CDs. I probably couldn't name a single song I hear on the radio but I could sing most of them. I will proudly admit to liking some Broadway musicals. I tend to really like folk type music, like Simon and Garfunkle and Harry Chapin. Or comedy music, like the Arrogant Worms.
Movies: I'm a huge movie fan. The Coen brothers are brilliant: Fargo, the Hudsucker Proxy, Raising Arizona, No Country for Old Men. I also like classics like the Great Escape, Shane, Inherit the Wind. Or hilarious comedies like Monty Python, Airplane, the Wrong Guy. Too many movies to list!
Books: Stephen King, Mary Gentle, Orson Scott Card, Dead Koontz, Piers Anthony, Tamora Pierce, Robin Hobb...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I packed up my stuff and got on a plane, moving to a country I had never been before without a job or a place to stay. And I love it.
Teach, Learn, Share
I've been studying close-up magic for about two years now. My magic has become more of a lifestyle than a hobby. I will be happy to perform some tricks and even teach a couple if someone is genuinely interested.
