Overview
About Me
I made a leap about a year ago from a long-standing career with a food bank to apprenticing on a small-scale organic farm in central Virginia. I am now making the most of having re-aligned my life to fit my values and the benefits of seasonal employment.
I'm passionate about local economies and supporting small-scale producers and innovators. I’m interested in food systems, gardening and how to cook really good, simple, seasonal food.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I realized that I've seen more of other countries than I have the US, so I'm taking the month of February to explore the country that I call home before the growing season starts back up. I want to spend my trip getting to know places and people.
Interests
Living one day at a time.
Meeting new people and visiting new places - getting to know myself better along the way.
Meditation, hiking, biking, tap dancing. Vegetables! I hope to learn to rock climb while in the Southwest next month.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: The Wood Brothers, Greg Brown, Bruce Springsteen, John Hiatt, Nina Simone, Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Levi Pedrick, Primus, Dolly Parton. Anybody with an instrument and a little passion.
Books: Anything by Pema Chodron, Thich Nhat Hanh and Wendell Barry.
Haven't had a tv or been in a movie theater in a long, long time.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Quit a well-paying, stable job with benefits to learn how to grow vegetables and explore this place.
Teach, Learn, Share
I had a lot of assumptions about myself and what I could do for a really long time. If you've ever felt stuck and limited, I can relate. I'd love to hear your story and share mine.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I like to talk, I like to listen. I make a ridiculously good winter squash bar with brown butter icing if you're so inclined and will let me in your kitchen.
Countries I’ve Visited
Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Switzerland
