About Me

I love adventure and travel. I love the excitement of new places, being exposed to the culture, sights, smells, and feel of a new environment. I am a classically-trained cellist who is passionate about purpose sharing the human treasure of this music with others, especially those whose hearts have not been transported by it. It is not an elite art, but one that has relevance and deep profound meaning for all. I love conversation, exploring new places, and meeting people from all walks of life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The idea of travelling and staying in a sterile hotel room, with the TV and my cell phone as my modes of staying in touch with the world, are not my first choice. It sounds like a great opportunity to meet people on my travels who are local and who want to share their viewpoints on where they live, their lives and lifestyles.

Interests

"Spirituality"--that which points us to the deepest part of our selves (for me, that is faith in God); learning about others' lives and what makes their lives meaningful; exploring new neighborhoods, cities, countries; music (almost every genre); and the things everyone loves--food, movies, dancing, a book that you can't put down until it's finished.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Bach, Mahler, Sibelius, Dvorak, Vivaldi. I also like non-classical music, but these composers affect me most.
Movies: Tsosti, A Room With A View, The Budapest Hotel, and all James Bond.
Books: Into Thin Air, All Is Forgotten, Nothing is Lost, and my guiding light, the Bible.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not sure I've done anything "amazing." My friends might say it was to pick up and leave everything to go to Africa to take a full-time position in a symphony. I'd say in retrospect it was to leave the life I lived in Africa, as great as it was, and come back on pure faith to pursue a new direction in music in the US. The thing I'm most happy with in the recent past is to help a friend out and pay his tuition to pursue an education.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach the joy of learning, listening, and playing music. I want to learn... so much--I love languages, movies, food, new places. I want to share conversation, laughter, and viewpoints.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The experience of meeting someone new, the gratitude of a host extending their living space to me, and the possibility of friendship.
