About Me

Take in all the world has to offer and always pay it forward.

**My husband and I are in the process of buying and remodeling another home. We are not able to host until that process is complete. :(

I am a free-spirited, fun-loving woman with a passion for travel, reading, and friendship. I start my mornings with chai tea or good coffee, and I feel very blessed to wake up to majestic mountain views each day. I love making memories with my newlywed husband. I also teach high school kids, and I like to think I teach them as much about being a decent human being as I teach them about literature and writing. I am excited to see where life takes me!

I am a non-denominational Christian. I live my life like this: Love God, love others, love yourself. Always pay it forward and never cause harm. I love learning about other people's philosophies and life experiences as their stories help expand my horizons. I consider myself extremely open-minded.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is my favorite way to travel! I love seeing how different people forge their way in the world, and how all of our stories connect.

My first experience Couchsurfing was in Washington, DC, and I loved it! Since then, my husband and I have couchsurfered our way across the US and part of Canada. We have only had positive experiences. We are looking forward to hosting should anyone want to see our little corner of North Carolina one day.

I love to read, write, speak Spanish, listen and play music, play sports, and sight-see.

Music, Movies, and Books

My tastes are always eclectic. My favorite book is Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. American Literature and World Literature are my favorite subjects to teach. I also love The Lipstick Gospel by Stephanie May Wilson. It is the perfect book for the gypsy soul!

Music: I like anything, except I do not enjoy Screamo very often. My favorite concert so far is a toss up between Maroon 5 and Lil Wayne/Drake.

Movies: My all-time favorite is the 1980s version of Footloose, because it holds sentimental value (I watched it with my parents a lot as a kid). I worked at a video store in high school before video stores became practically extinct, so I have eclectic taste in movies as well. I never watch horror films because I am a baby.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have traveled quite a bit in Europe and the Caribbean, and now I am working on more of my never-ending bucket list. I have conquered the feat of learning a new language, and I change kids' lives everyday. One of the coolest memories I've had is splunking (caving), and I came out of that cave covered head-to-toe in mud. Can anyone say, "free facial?!" It was awesome.

Teach, Learn, Share

Travel is my teacher. I live to meet people... anyone. I am passionate about cultures and diversity, and I see each new relationship as a chance to grow as a person. I do not, however, have a tolerance for disrespect or immaturity.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I almost always travel with my husband, Colby. I like to think we are low-maintenance. We don't stay out all night or disrespect our hosts in any way. We would be more than willing to help with household chores if needed.

We love conversing and truly making connections with our hosts. We both have a variety of interests, and good conversation is something we really enjoy. I can teach you a bit of Spanish (or speak it with you if you like) and discuss many books. Colby can blow your mind with his mathematical knowledge (though he is quite humble about it, I promise).

If at all possible, we would love to host couchsurfers in our home to pay it forward, especially if they are people whom we have previously stayed with. In the event that we do host people, we can offer many things like cute animals to play with, a tour of our area if time permits, and an authentic Appalachian meal.
