ABOUT ME

I am embarking on a new career writing and coaching/tutoring children and young adults. I am intrigued by the concept of self-education that allows people to learn things when they need to know them as a supplement to existing formal education options. I also believe that learning can occur faster than presently assumed possible.

I always count raising my two daughters as a single parent as my greatest and most rewarding achievement. While our family was flung far and wide during their college years, we have all independently settled in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I have in my career turned around several organizations and have achieved dramatic results without firing half the staff (as often was suggested) or being the meanest SOB in the company. I focused instead on respect, human understanding and innovation.

I have been on the leading edge of technology for most of my career and have notched several firsts, but in retrospect the technical stuff was not that significant in the overall scheme of things so I am moving on to working with people directly which is what I have always had a passion for.

PHILOSOPHY

Personal responsibility in all things pretty much sums up my philosophy. I have the belief that people can do just about anything they want if they the passion and discipline to do what it takes to succeed.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I am learning writing and blogging skills and brushing up on my coaching and tutoring skills. My hope is to be a pioneer of a few great ideas that contribute to a transformation in the way we educate people. My goal is to help people take charge of their own destiny.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a beginning couchsurfer, and at the present time I do not have a place that enables hosting. Over time that will change, but for now I am limited to being just a surfer.

Interests

My interests today focus on various aspects of education and personal coaching. I am reading everything I can lay my hands on regarding education, neuroscience, parenting, career planning, life skills, etc. I also continue to follow the technical world (can't help myself).

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all music except rap and heavy metal which I have just never had the inclination to figure out. I watch way too many movies; I like being able to get totally immersed in a story and see it to a conclusion in two hours.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I wrote the business plan, managed the development and made the first major sales of the computer chip that made high quality home theater sound possible. This technology brought the Dolby Digital movie theater experience into homes all over the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have achieved a lot of success by helping people do things they didn't know they were capable of. Most of my ideas have come from interacting with people who think differently than I do and synthesizing our independent thoughts into new ideas and new directions.
