About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live, to experience life, to be true to myself and have fun

ABOUT ME

I'm a pretty easy going, friendly kind of person. I love to travel and experience new cultures and surroundings, I like the outdoors and being in nature. I also don't mind cozying up on the couch with a good book or chilling out watching a movie. I enjoy spending time with friends and family (I miss my family as I don't live near them!). I like live music and meeting up at the pub for a beer. I do alittle bit of horse-riding, have just started kickboxing (which I'm loving) and don't mind a hike or two. I've been lucky enough to go to SE Asia and the USA in 2007 (where I fell in love with squirrels!), went to Indonesia in 2008 as a small mammal scientitst, and this year I'm off to Canada to work on squirrels for about 2 months- I'm fortunate that my study lets to do these cool things (which is why I'm studying in the first place!).

PHILOSOPHY

I live to learn and to experience. I try to be in the moment, and be true to myself. I try to be open to new people and experiences and find joy in every day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to couch-surfing. My friend Clare is an avid couch-surfer and highly recommends it. I'm about to go to Canada in May for 7 weeks or so to work on a squirrel project, and thought I might try some couchsurfing in Alaska after that.

Interests

Nature, environment, outdoors, animals (really not a fan of spiders, but everything else is ok!). Bit of hiking, horse-riding, just getting into kickboxing. Yoga. Live music (or any music), good books, escapsim movies! Time with family and friends. Photography. Sunshine and walks on the beach. Connecting with life and things around me.

Music, Movies, and Books

With uni and studying I read a lot of science type stuff, which can be a bit dry at times. But some cool sciency books I really enjoyed were Jablonka and Lambs "Evolution in 4 dimensions" and Temple Grandin's book on communicating with animals. I also enjoyed Kicked, Bitten and Scratched by Amy Sutherland, and Dr Tatianas sex advice to all creatures! Jared Diamond and Richard Dawkins are always worth a read. I also like a bit more escapism at times- and I'm a sucker for a happy ending. Jenny Crusie I'll re-read, and I don't mind a bit of David Eddings, and Harry Potter!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I thought watching squirrels in the Illinois was pretty amazing, and I really enjoyed seeing Mt St Helens and the Columbia River Basin in Oregon. Rafting down the John Day River in Oregon was pretty cool. Night markets in Luang Prabang was fantastic, and living in an Indonesian village blew my mind!
