À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

I am on a mission to learn as much about the world of food as I can. Fine dining is my newest endeavor and I am going to make sweet, sweet love to some of the greatest restaurants in the world.

ABOUT ME

I think my friends would describe me as quiet, thoughtful, generous, a good listener, enthusiastic, and intuitive. A friend once told me that I am a toggle switch and not a dimmer switch; I'm either switched off or I'm 100% on.

PHILOSOPHY

Ever tried, ever failed, no matter. Try again, fail again, fail better. - Samuel Beckett

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've never couched surfed before, but I'm intrigued by the possibilities. It also fits in very nicely with my travel plans. It's nice how the universe comes together sometimes.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Movies - A Man Escaped, Pulp Fiction, Chef (naturally)

Music - I'm all over the road with my musical tastes. I love some good, hard metal and punk (Fugazi, Stooges, Faith No More, Soundgarden), rousing classical (esp. Chopin), and I was raised on a steady diet of classic rock. I came of age in the early 1990's, so grunge metal is certainly in my wheelhouse. Popular music doesn't move me too much, and I've had a brief flirtation with hip-hop, but nothing serious.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I went to Las Vegas for my 40th birthday and had brunch at Bouchon and dinner at L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon. These two meals were so profound they seemed to change my DNA. I had been working in the food industry for over 10 years at that point, but I knew then that I needed to change directions as soon as possible.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

Obviously, I can share my knowledge and love of food. It lends itself so well to the hospitality at the heart of the Couchsurfing community. Since I love to work with my hands, I can teach my fellow humans about handicrafts like woodworking and hi-detail painting.

As for learning, I feel like I can get into nearly anything if the person teaching it is passionate. I've found that energy to be so infectious that I can get interested in subjects I never even knew existed! More specifically though, I would love to learn about food cultures that I have never experienced, such as ethnically genuine Chinese cuisine. Exciting!! Being from the rural Midwest and not having travelled too far outside, I am simply interested in the way other people live their day-to-day lives.
