Immerse myself in both the Spanish language and the various cultures of Spanish speakers!
I spent the last semester of college in a Spanish Language and Immersion study abroad program in Valencia, Spain during the spring of 2012. I had previously spent 2-3 "years" studying Spanish at the university level, but I still did not feel like I was absorbing the language. Although choosing to study abroad was the most expensive option I could have chosen, it forced me into an environment in which I was not familiar or comfortable. I was immersed into castellano 24/7 (besides the teeny-tiny amount of time spent with my American classmates). To learn and speak a language, I believe one must jump in right away and try to speak. I might have had decent grammar, but that did me no good if, after all that time, I couldn't handle a natural conversation. In Spain, I decided study a bit of grammar, but put most of my focus on speaking the language with others. That helped me a great deal, but now I still have a long way to go! Now that I am back in the United States, I'm looking to converse in Spanish with native speakers and those who are learning the language as well.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm currently studying and traveling when I have the chance.
I have not couchsurfed yet, but I want to soon. Once I get back to the US, I hope to host guests and show them around.

Music, Movies, and Books
Taken, The Hurt Locker...action movies, comedies.
I listen mostly to 1990's golden age rap, and chilean/argentinian reggae en español. I LOVE to read...I usually just pick a library shelf at random and pick what catches my eye.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Studying/Living in Spain. Through all the positives and negatives, I still can't get over how amazing my time in Spain was.
Teach, Learn, Share
I volunteer as a skateboarding instructor in the San Francisco, California chapter of Skate Like a Girl, a nonprofit organization based in Seattle, Washington, www.skatelikeagirl.com. We promote female leadership through example and social empowerment. Skateboarding is our creative outlet. I have a great love for languages, so I can participate in language exchanges.
